This is an excellent article for beginners. I would suggest that beginners work with light shades of yarn. I find it easier to count individual stitches with the lighter shades. As your confidence and skills grow gradually start working with darker shades. A good trick when working with dark shades is to lay a white pillowcase or piece of white fabric on your lap . It will reflect the light and make it easier to see your stitches. Have any of you tried this trick? I crochet and cross stitch and learned this many years ago.

I am loving these patterns! I’m a sucker for a good seed stitch pattern, so that’s what originally drew me in. I love knitting dishcloths as gifts, especially for showers. They are an inexpensive yet thoughtful gift. If you are a beginner, dishcloths are a great way to master a new stitch without the commitment of a larger piece.
