When you’re just learning to crochet, the thought of completing a row can be stressful, let alone an entire crochet blanket pattern. Blankets can be SO big, and it’s already a struggle to properly hold a crochet hook. Well, crocheters, a blanket is actually one of the best things to make for a beginner, especially an easy or beginner-friendly crochet blanket. Not only is a crochet afghan an easier task than you’d think, it can also improve your crochet skills! As you work through the crochet pattern, you’ll find yourself able to work faster and faster as you get more comfortable with each passing stitch. You’ll hold your crochet hook more confidently and you’ll be able to maneuver it through your crochet stitches with ease.
Way back when I was a fledgling crocheter who only knew how to crochet a double crochet stitch, I decided to start an afghan. I just started working up my foundation chain and measured it against myself until I decided it was wide enough before continuing to work the rows. I had no pattern and didn’t actually know the proper way to work a turning stitch, but as I kept going, I was able to finish more and more rows in the same amount of time I allotted myself. I was even able to pay more attention to the shows I was watching, which definitely helped the time pass. So, speaking from experience, it gets easier and it does get quicker, friends. I promise.
