I am teaching myself to knit and am using a pattern for an eternity scarf. The needles are size 10 circular and so far it seems pretty easy. I know how to crochet but have always wanted to learn to knit.

Truthfully, I am just learning to knit, so I am starting with a scarf. In crochet, I like to keep trying new things. I have crocheted several tops, a few shrugs, a cardi, and lots of baby blankets, booties, & cocoons. I Have many more patterns saved to crochet and have a beginning knit pattern collection. I would like to learn to knit in the round, after I get faster at straight knitting and make socks both ways. There are so many amazing patterns. I also have a few that are partially knit and partially crochet that I am itching to try. I just have to get better at knitting, but as long as I keep finding wonderful free crochet patterns on your site, that I really want to make, I have a feeling my knitting is going to continue to be put on hold until I finish Christmas presents and projects for an Orphanage in Mexico that my friend started. Sorry this is so long, I am just a little yarn crazy and have been so enjoying these patterns! Thank you for all you do! Great giveaway and good luck everyone!

I just started crocheting again, last time was 35 years ago. I made a baby crib blanket, baby sweater, hat and booties for my new 6 mos old granddaughter. I now am doing loom knitting and weaving. My favorite are the multicolored blankets that I’m working on. I am so in awe that there are so many how-to videos on YouTube that have helped me learn these skills. I usually learn by reading instructions but I think the videos in this case are definitely more beneficial to me. Also, all the free patterns make this hobby so enjoyable. I’ve found the various forums very helpful as I’ve shared and received tips from so many other “knitters”.
      Happy Holidays to all!

I like knitting cowls with circular needles. Because they’re small, simple items and don’t require careful fitting, I enjoy trying more complex colorwork patterns. I’ve been experimenting with Fair Isle knitting patterns…so beautiful!

As a breast cancer survivor, I’ll never forget how cold my head would get after I lost my hair from chemo. Even more so, I’ll never forget the kindness of complete strangers who crocheted and knitted the hats I wore during that time. I’ve been a survivor for 5 years, have my own hair back, and now make hats for other survivors.

Scarves are quick and easy ways to use up leftover yarn, try out new stitches, and they’re warm. Plus, they’re the essence of portable. I’m especially in love with infinity scarves, because they’re less likely to get caught in the door, yanked off, and lost.

I’m not sure of your question, I am not a very good knitter but pretty good at crochet. Some things still trip me up but asking ” what is your favorite wearable knit and why?”, on a crochet item is not very nice. This came up because I sign up for free crochet patterns. Ok, I have tried to knit scarves, but my mother-in-law keeps telling me that they just fall apart so she throws them away. I have a wash cloth (with the sailboat design on it). I have a baby blanket that I tried to do about 12 years ago for my cousin when she was expecting, now it might be ready for his child because it is still on the circular needles I had to buy to do that particular baby blanket. I usually stay with crocheting now, it was easier to remember my Mem teaching me when I was little. I have done sweaters, scarves, hats, shawls, blankets. I just can’t seem to keep my yarn in stock at home, everyone wants something, so I would love to win this yarn because I have never done a blanket like this one, and my husband can’t complain about me buying more yarn. Sorry for the super long entry!

What an intriguing pattern! I have a spinal cord injury so making cowl to keep my neck warm, shawls or comfort blankets to keep the pain away, and gifts for others to distract me from daily pain. Fiber is truly a lifesaver for me.

Every year, I find something new to knit and it’s my favorite of the year. Amigurumi, scarves, hats, afghans, sweaters. I love them all. I usually have one or two projects which are long term and lots of small quick ones like socks. My brothers love it when I make them socks. In fact, that’s what all four of them are getting for Christmas this year.

I use any leftover yarn to make lap-ghans or shawls for those in a nearby assisted living facility and baby blankets for needy new mothers. Crochet is very therapeutic/enjoyable for me because it is relaxing and the finished product is a gift that I hope will be appreciated by the one receiving it.

Scarves, hats, and cowls. We live out in the country with no trees to block the wind. The wind can come roaring in at 35 – 40 miles an hour or more in the winter. It can get pretty cold heading out to the barn.

After about 20 years since my nana taught me how to knit and crochet, my favorite wearable to make is actually a recent discovery: baby/child sweaters. With many of my family, friends, and coworkers starting families, I saw a lot of handmade blankets at baby showers and thought the expectant mothers might appreciate something a little different. It takes a smidge of planning to figure out an age-range size to make based on the due date so the sweater wearing will fall at an appropriate time of year, but regardless of the size it’s a quick project where I can try out different patterns and stitches and be confident that it will fit the child at some point (and perhaps, when it’s been outgrown, fit a favorite stuffed animal). I can also make baby/child sweaters for charity: World Vision’s Knit for Kids and a local women’s shelter. My favorite so far, though, was a short sleeved lacy cardigan for my brother’s goddaughter (the couple’s first child).

I knit and crochet and just love all the free patterns I am finding lately. I don’t usually make anything for myself – I love to make hats/scarves/gloves for the local food pantry and sweaters and blankets for my family. If you could call it a wearable, I love my crocodile stitch purse I made this summer. It was my first foray into purses; I lined it and everything! 😎

When it comes to making wearables, I love to make sweaters. It does not matter whether I’m crocheting or knitting I enjoy using either method. I enjoy making pullovers the most, because they fully protect the upper torso during strong winds and cold temperatures. Another reason I love making sweaters is that I can make them during the summer, and not have to worry about getting overheated by a big heavy afghan. Most of all, I get a good feeling to know that when I finish the sweater, someone will be wearing it.

The wearable items we make are hats, booties, and blankets for the Pregnancy Center; hats for the homeless and the cancer patients; blankets, hacky sacs, frisbies, and sweaters for the Child Advocacy Center; and lap throws for the nursing homes. It adds warmth in many different ways as a hood, doubled as a cowl or turtle neck (depends on length and thickness), as a scarf without adding bulk under coats or jackets (plus it’s not easy to slide off like a regular straight scarf), and it drops down over my shoulders when I’m in a very chilly place. Just a really functional piece.

To reaquaint myself with knitting again i knitted a couple of hat for my twin sons which they love. I’m working on my sweater now and it’s going pretty good. I will try and post a picture when it’s done.

Currently my favorite is a basket weave knitted cowl. My first was made out of #3 silky texture yarn. It feels soooo good around my neck. I am making several more for Christmas presents. Doesn’t take much yarn so is good for reducing my odds and ends stash. Might even try alternating colors by row or multiple rows…it’s a thought!

When I first learned to crochet I couldn’t get that first row of chain stitch figured out. Then I found a pattern for Mary Jane slippers that starts with a circle and I fell in love! I love making them and don’t get tired of the pattern. I’ve figured out how to make them in varying sizes by changing the yarn and hook size and the women in my family love them. I probably knit more than I crochet but it’s my favourite wearable pattern in either knit or crochet!

I learnt to knit at ten years old. My left handed Uncle taught me a right handed child how to knit a square for the Red Cross. In the last 60 years I have taught 8 years of Brownies to knit left handed till I was reminded that none of the girls were left handed so I had to learn how to do it right handed I was surprised to find this out myself as it had not occurred to me that I was doing it..lol I was also a tester for them in our area so they could collect a badge… I have knit and crochet ..sweaters ..afghans… hats… scarves…. mitts ….socks ..dish clothe…..many baby layettes and have lately been having a blast knitting and crocheting 18 ” American Girl size doll clothes.

My favourite thing to crochet is a pair of flower-on-the-toe slippers. It does not require a pattern. If you can crochet a square dishcloth (the edges each equalling the length of your foot), and if you can crochet a flower, then you can make up a pair of these in an evening. You can sew up the heel and then sew up the toe any number of ways. I change it up. No two pairs are the same. But I always sew a crochet flower on the toe. So cute. Somebody always wears them.

Family and friends enjoy my efforts. This season I am finishing more ruffled scarves. All the wonderful colors feel like working with candy. Fingerless mittens are the in thing with my daughter and her friends. Come spring, when it’s still cold out I will begin working with sunny colors for camisoles. And maybe a new sweater just for me.

My Grandmother taught me to crochet when I was 8 years old, which was over 50 years ago. I still have some of the steel crochet hooks she taught me with. I also have the book, which was learn to crochet, knit, and tat, and embroidery. The first item I ever made is the doily from the pattern in the book.

I love making ponytail holders. They use up all kinds of scraps, and I have a huge basket of them on my vanity table. No matter what I’m wearing, I have a hair doodad to match, dressy or casual! And they make wonderful stocking stuffers.

I love warm sweaters, I crochet them. They keep you so warm in the cold northern winters, and there are so many styles to create, not to mention so many yarns and colors. My next favorite thing would be dish cloths, they work up so quickly, and I have a wonderful cotton pattern.

Hi, merry Christmas to you all,,, I made a monkey hat, it was many parts but easy enough to do but when I finished it was great, funny and loved by everyone especially my daughter-in-law. She used it for the finishing touch for her Monkey Halloween costume and everyone at her work thought it was perfect. I loved making things but this was especially nice!!!!

i am realtively new to crocheting. I taught myself in about three months. I still do not know everything yet but I am slowly working my way up. Right now my favorite things to crochet are baby buntings. I made the hungry caterpillar and in the process of making a owl one for my sister’s baby. I love taking pictures of the newborns in their buntings. I also like to make hats and headbands.

I love crocheting myself headbands of every color. I also love homemade crocheted mittens that I make to keep my hands warm. I also love making afghans to give away to those in need but also to my family and friends. Crocheting is my get away craft that gives me peace and joy. I also see the joy of the recipients of my crafts.
