5 Nature Inspired Knitting Patterns

October 11, 2013 by AllFreeKnitting 2 Comments

5 Nature Inspired Knitting PatternsThe world around us is a beautiful place, full of inspiration for the aspiring knitting designer.  The natural world is one of the most obvious places to turn to when you’re looking for your next project, even if you are simply thinking whether you should knit a pair of mittens or a hat for the upcoming cold weather.   There are so  many different things in the world around us, that it’s hard to pin point just one place to find inspiration from.  Autumn is my favorite season, not only because it’s the unofficial start of knitting season.  The changing colors also remind me of what a beautiful place the world is; even something as as a fallen leaf can become profound when subject to close scrutiny.

These gorgeous knitting patterns grew out of a love for nature.  Either the colors or the construction of these garments are reminiscent of the natural world.  One of the most interesting things that I notice when looking at these patterns is the variety.  Though there are some pretty basic ideas behind these patterns, each project is distinct.  We have plenty of notable patterns on AllFreeKnitting, but I tried to focus on patterns that will keep you warm over the coming winter months.  Seasonal knitting always gives me a good dose of motivation, since I want to be able to wear my project before the cold weather melts away in spring.

5 Nature Inspired Knitting Patterns

Dancing Leaves Wrap – Have you ever seen leaves swirling in the wind?  This lovely knit wrap features a lovely lace motif that mimics the falling leaves of autumn.

Frozen Lake Cowl – Winter is on the way, but that doesn’t mean you have to freeze.  Stay warm with this cozy cowl; it’s the colors of this project that supply the name, not how you’ll feel with it on.

Mystic Forest Shawl – Cover yourself in a lace with this gorgeous shawl.  If you lay out this pattern you’ll see that the lace looks a bit like the leaves in a canopy of trees.

Simple Sunset Scarf – As any romantic will tell you, the sunset is always worth watching.   Capture the beauty of dusk with this simple scarf pattern.

Grand Canyon Wrap – The Grand Canyon is one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural world, and this shawl lives up to its name.  You’ll stay nice and warm wrapped up in this beautiful project.

I have been knitting and crocheting since I was ten years old (I’m now 63) This has always been my favorite yarn. Over the years I’ve made afghans, sweaters, baby one-piece outfits, christening gowns, scarves gallore, mittens, slippers (my very first project), and many more patterns. Currently, I’m knitting a sweater for my three year old grandson. I love challenges, and this one is quite challenging.
