AllFreeCrochet’s Baby Hat Charity Drive

September 1, 2014 by AllFreeCrochet

Big news, knitters and crocheters! AllFreeCrochet is hosting another charity drive! Beginning today, September 1, we are collecting RED homemade hats for babies! These hats can be either knit or crocheted, but you must use RED worsted weight yarn.

We’re working with the American Heart Association on their initiative, “Little Hats, Big Hearts” to donate red homemade hats to newborn babies. Little Hats, Big Hearts is a wonderful project to help raise awareness of heart disease, the number one killer of Americans, and congenital heart defects, the most common type of birth defect in the country.

Whether you are a crocheter, knitter, a sew-er, or just a crafter looking for a good excuse spend the weekend getting creative, we hope you’ll consider making a quick, easy baby hat to give to a newborn in need. The deadline to donate is September 30, 2014.

“Little Hats, Big Hearts” works with both the Mother-Baby unit and Neonatal Intensive Care units of participating hospitals, so both newborn hats and preemie hats are needed. The red hats can be either knit, crocheted, or even sewn, as long as they are red. Use one of our free crochet baby hat patterns, or a free pattern from one of our sister sites, such as AllFreeKnitting. Of course, you’re also welcome to create your own unique pattern that will be treasured for years to come.

RED Hat Requirements:

There are a few yarn specifics to follow to ensure that “Little Hats, Big Hearts” can accept and distribute your generous donation. So while you’re planning, please keep in mind that the yarn must be:

  • RED
  • cotton or acrylic
  • medium to heavy weight
  •  machine washable and dryable

* Please, no buttons or bows, as they can be dangerous for little ones *

Where to Send Them:

We will be collecting all donated hats at our offices in Northbrook, IL and personally delivering them to the local Little Hats, Big Hats chapter in Chicago. Please have your homemade hats delivered to:

Prime Publishing, LLC
Attn: Baby Hat Charity Drive
3400 Dundee Road
Northbrook, IL 60062

We will be accepting hats from September 1, 2014 through September 30, 2014.

What’s In It For YOU?

Aside from the warm fuzzy feeling you will get by donating something to charity, we’re offering an exciting Lion Brand giveaway worth more than $70! Send us a homemade red newborn baby hat and you’ll be automatically entered to win the complete collection of Lion Brand Modern Baby Yarn!
