Best of March: Afghan Patterns

April 6, 2013 by AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns 7 Comments

Hello April, I never thought you’d get here! Seems like March was a bit confused on the weather, but April is full of sunshine so far. (Let’s hope I didn’t just jinx it!)

The weather may be uncertain, but you were all very certain in picking your favorite patterns from our newsletter, Laying It All Out. Here are the top 20 patterns from March!

Top Baby Blankets

Spring is baby season and many of our fans on Facebook were posting baby blankets and talking about baby crochet this past month. Each baby blanket that was in the top clicks is pink in some way, but know that any of these baby blankets can be crocheted for boys too. Animals are a general trend for spring so it’s no surprise that the Crochet Butterfly Blanket was a hit this past month.

Best Granny Square Patterns

Grandma’s Favorite Afghan is a basic granny afghan and it’s always a classic hit. And who says crocheters aren’t royalty? The Crown Jewels Crochet Square and the Jewel Box Crochet Throw were royal favorites.

All About Ripples and Lacy Crochet Patterns

Most of the ripple patterns happened to be lacy ripples which are perfect for spring. These patterns are mostly very intricate in design and use lightweight yarn.

Favorite Throw Patterns

Throws are a nice compromise for spring since they are not “bulky” or too large to crochet quickly. With spring comes lots of chores and new things to do so it’s always good to find a pattern that will be easy to finish in short amounts of time.

“Scrappy” Scrap Patterns

The Paddle Ashore Afghan and Granny Bobble Blanket are both “scrap” patterns. Using up your left over yarn is a perfect way to get started on some spring cleaning. The best part is you get to make something new from what seems like “throw-away” scraps. With Earth Day coming up, you can feel great about using your yarn instead of throwing it out.

I really love #2, the Sweetest Baby Blanket, but I probably won’t make it since I’m having a boy in a few weeks. It’s pretty girly. :).

I am going to make #2 for my niece who is due in December. This is beautiful! Yes it’s pretty girly but I will use blue instead of pink and a border that is not so ruffled it she has a boy. Thanks for the free pattern.
