If this isn’t your first time on Stitch and Unwind, you probably know that three different yarn websites contribute daily posts for your fiber enjoyment. What you may not know is that AllFreeKnitting, AllFreeCrochet, and AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns are made possible by talented knit and crochet designers who share original patterns on their blogs. Because of these crafty bloggers, all three sister sites are able to share their creations with you.
Just a couple weekends ago, two other editors and I were fortunate enough to attend the annual BlogHer blogger conference in San Jose, California. The weekend in general was unforgettable, but the amazingly gifted bloggers we met were even more so.
BlogHer is a yearly conference that unites female (and male) bloggers under one roof. Every year, bloggers have the opportunity to connect with other online writers, network with sponsors, hear from talented professionals in the media industry, attend workshops to hone their web skills, and celebrate their craft.
This year marked the 10th anniversary of BlogHer. We spent three fun-filled days listening to motivational speeches from media moguls, writers, and celebrities like Arianna Huffington, Kerry Washington, and Jenny Lawson. We were also able to meet a ton of craft bloggers–many of whom contribute patterns to AllFreeKnitting, AllFreeCrochet, and AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns!
It was truly amazing to see so much creativity and solidarity in one (huge) room. We heard from writers of all backgrounds. From bloggers who write about dealing with illness to those who muse about cultivating organic gardens in their backyards, we heard it all. Of course we were on the look-out for fiber-friendly bloggers, but the conference in general was a great way to meet people with similar interests.
Blogging has come such a long way its inception. From being dismissed as an online diary platform to becoming recognized as a professional way to make a living, this form of writing has become a mainstream source of official news and respected opinions. If you’re considering blogging as a hobby or as a profession, be sure to check out the BlogHer website for encouragement, inspiration, and community.
