Yes, pet blankets for the local humane society. While pets may not need them for warmth so much, they do need something that is their own and that provides comfort. Especially when in such a strange and scary place as a cage or pen in the pound. Some of these animals have never had comfort of any kind. So sad.

Some of us have also knitted prayer shawls for individuals and I just donated about 20 hand knit hats to a homeless shelter nearby. We try to pick a charity per year to work for. It’s a great way to give back to the community and to use up our left over yarns! Thanks for the opportunity to win some amazing yarn!

I live outside of the Chicago downtown area. There are homeless people everywhere you turn when you are in the city, regardless of the area. I make hats and scarfs and carry several with me when I visit the city. Then, when I come upon a person in need instead of money I give them a hat and scarf set. They have always been so surprised and very grateful as our winters can be brutal. It’s just a different way to give to those less fortunate!

For over 15 years, I have crocheted (& also knitted) items as part of a church group which sells them at an annual Christmas fair & donates all the cash from the sale to a charity of our choice. In most years we have voted to give the money to the local women’s shelter. After the sale, we donate many remaining scarves, hats, blankets, and baby items directly to the women’s shelter or a nearby homeless shelter. The crocheted items I have made for charity include scarves, hats, baby items (sweaters, hats, booties, blankets), afghans, & household items (dish cloths, coasters, Christmas ornaments, bookmarks).

I’m new to crocheting from a pattern. I have been drooling over the pictures you post & hoping & hoping you would pick me to win a book! In the mean time i just download & download & drool over stuff! I’m going to start a scarf for myself, which is a first, Saturday when i go to my monthly “yarn club” with the girls! Everything I make is for someone else. Please pick me, then I won’t be able to say “I never win” which is true!

But I crochet hats/ beanies for the homeless in my city and leave them so they are available to them or I hand them out when I can, my goal was to make 100 hats last year, yes I made my goal but have yet to distribute them all. This year I hope to match that goal. I also have made chemo hats for friends in needs. I plan on joining a knit/ crochet group this month that also does charity work.

Not yet but thinking of knitting for our chemo unit at the hospital. Im new to knitting and crochet. I just made my new baby nephew a sweater and touque to help me quit smoking. I tried to quit many times before but couldnt take the anxiety. I am now smoke free for 29 days and having little to now anxiety because I am knitting on my lunch and breaks at work and give mysef breaks at home to knit for half hour. Knitting as totally helped me quit smoking!

I started late in life (62) looking at YouTube videos….and I am now absolutely addicted and each day it gets better and better….had a fear of crocheting in the round, but found a wonderful video on YouTube with a wonderful instructor and now I can make beanies without any effort……next I am going to tackle granny squares…..

I crochet blankets for families that have lost their homes in earthquakes, or hurricanes. They usually have nothing left of their belongings so a little touch of something hand made brings them a lot of comfort. Surprisingly, with all those holes in them they still stay warm! (Hehehe)

My first charity project was a “Drop in the Pond” throw for the Linus Project. I had so much fun doing it and imagining the child that would be kept warm with it that I have crocheted for charity ever since. I carry scarves and hats with me in case I see someone that is cold. I have given blankets to the church and local charities. My family says it’s an addiction and I’m happy with that.

No, I have not directly made anything for charity. I am thinking that all the hats I have made for others, and the ones I have made for my kids that have ended up in the lost and found and then the school drops all unclaimed items to the good will.

I have not crocheted in years. I want to start again to help combat the stress of my job and I saw this on facebook and want to start doing scarves and hats to donate. I have not picked a charity yet, but I am sure my local social services would not turn down donations:)
Thanks for putting this great idea in my head and kudos to all of you who already do crochet for charity!

Yes I have but quite a while ago. A few weeks ago sewed together the squares for afghans at Michaels for I think it was called Warm Up American. It feels so good to do something for others. Out of town visiting family, but will look into where I can be of service when I get home.
