Especially when in such a strange and scary place as a cage or pen in the pound. Some of these animals have never had comfort of any kind. So sad.

Some of us have also knitted prayer shawls for individuals and I just donated about 20 hand knit hats to a homeless shelter nearby. We try to pick a charity per year to work for. It’s a great way to give back to the community and to use up our left over yarns! Thanks for the opportunity to win some amazing yarn!
I live outside of the Chicago downtown area. There are homeless people everywhere you turn when you are in the city, regardless of the area. I make hats and scarfs and carry several with me when I visit the city. Then, when I come upon a person in need instead of money I give them a hat and scarf set. They have always been so surprised and very grateful as our winters can be brutal. It’s just a different way to give to those less fortunate!

After the sale, we donate many remaining scarves, hats, blankets, and baby items directly to the women’s shelter or a nearby homeless shelter. The crocheted items I have made for charity include scarves, hats, baby items (sweaters, hats, booties, blankets), afghans, & household items (dish cloths, coasters, Christmas ornaments, bookmarks).
