Eating right and moving about instead of staying idle for long periods of time will help you feel better. You don’t have to join a gym to lose weight, use household items for props, 3 X a day at 10 minutes intervals does the trick.

There is more than one way of keeping your heart healthy. We can eat right and exercise but if we don’t have love in our hearts we will be always sick at heart. We need someone or something to love or we will not have a truly healthy heart.

Keeping up a do-able healthy diet and exercise is the key to a healthy heart. Also, keeping the stress to a minimum is essential. Crochet is the best way I know to keep your stress level at the lowest ever. Not to mention that it makes you happy. The happier you are, the healthier you are. That is a fact. So, my philosophy is that crochet is one of the most enjoyable ways to keep a healthy heart. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

I work for cardiologists and we all walk at lunch around our complex, regardless of the cold, and believe me it has been very cold in Buffalo, NY, this winter. I take stretching breaks throughout the day to alievate stress, cramped shoulders and back aches. I eat healthy, soup or salads for lunch and snacks are nuts or fresh fruit and veggies. But most important is sharing a smile with each and every patient letting that person know at that moment he/she is most important and worthy of all of my attention! We all need to feel that way once a day. And how do I unwind at the end of the day, with my crochet hook a ball of yarn and a good pattern. I would love to win this Red yarn to crochet up little hearts to give to patients that come in scared and worried about theiir testing or those knowing they need surgery. Just a little heart to show we care at our office!

I eat very low in fat, fat free dairy products, lean cuts of beef rarely, boneless skinless chicken or turkey breast, and fish. Lots of veggies-I roast them or steam them and lots of fresh fruit. Snacks are thoughtful not just grab and run. And my carbs are complex carbs-simple carbs are kept to a minimum., I find I feel better that way. And sodium – since I cook as much from scratch as possible, it’s the only way I can control that too. I try to keep my weight as close to my ideal body weight as possible and I walk, treadmill in the winter, and do yoga which greatly helps with stress management. And I knit. I find it very soothing and calming.

I see my cardiologist twice a year, remember to take my meds regularly, and try to stick to a heart-healthy diet — lower the carbs, raise the veggies and protein, try to stick with healthy fats. But I also try to get plenty of rest and enjoy life every day, and not stress over any of this stuff too much. Happier is healthier!!

I believe keeping an open heart and sharing my life with friends and family (for instance our neighborhood monthly craft and sewing group) is what helps keep me healthy. Also a balanced diet (with a little treat now and then) and exercise are always there as backups!
