I-love-yarn-day-2014-square

It’s that time of year again! October kicks off the holiday season, and it starts with one of our favorite holidays: I Love Yarn Day! A few years back, the lovely people at the Craft Yarn Council declared that the second Friday of every October would be I Love Yarn Day.

Whether you knit, crochet, or are an all-around fiber enthusiast, this is the holiday when you can shout your love of fiber from the mountain tops! Obviously, us here at AllFreeCrochet, AllFreeKnitting, and AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns have a passionate and all-consuming love for yarn, and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than with all you other yarnies!

This year, I Love Yarn Day lands on October 10th, and like last year we’re going to be celebrating with a week of daily giveaways and free patterns from companies like Red Heart, Lion Brand, and Spin Rite.

Starting tomorrow, we’ll unveil a new pattern and prize from these amazing companies, all of which lead up to I Love Yarn Day. We’re talking free patterns and skeins upon skeins of yarn, all up for grabs! On top of all this, we’re having a grand prize giveaway! Wouldn’t you like to win all of the items in the picture below?

ILYD-grand-prize-large

Make sure to visit Stitch and Unwind everyday this week to discover new patterns and enter to win fantastic prizes.

As if all of this was not enough, we’re bringing our love of yarn to Facebook and Google Plus! Check out AllFreeCrochet, AllFreeKnitting, and AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns Facebook Pages for mini-contests, and join Maria Segares on October 9th for a special Google Hangout!

Happy I Love Yarn Day, fiber enthusiasts!

How will you celebrate I Love Yarn Day?

I am going to give myself the time to sit and engineer a pattern for a lace shawl I love from the picture but just isn’t working out when i follow the printed pattern. Also spend some quiet meditative time on the prayer shawl I’m knitting in Misti Alpaca Baby Me Boo (a yarn I absolutely love).

I have just finished crocheting a lap blanket for a friend and am also working on a special blanket for an autistic young man that I have met and I have started knitting a sweater for a family member. I also have several knit animals that I will be sewing together for special people in my life. This is how I relax.

Just finished with a project for March of Dimes, now going back to working on hats for homeless people, our church does a program where we give away food, clothing, medical care, haircuts, and a whole lot more. I made a personal goal to make 120 hats (double my last year amount) to give away to the homeless this year.

I will be doing what I do most days, crocheting either something I’m working on or trying a new pattern. It’s like I can’t get enough of yarn, crocheting, always downloading more patterns than I’ll probably ever use! It’s an addiction but at least it’s a good one! 🙂

I have been crocheting and knitting since I was 12. My grandmother taught me. I am now 63 and still mostly crocheting. I like to give hand made presents for people for special occasions. I have stock piled sweaters sets for babies and also made sure my Grandkids have plenty of stuff in their closets. I have been forced to retire after and injury to my shoulder and having 7 surgeries. Not working has put an extreme crunch on my income and have had to really limit my yarn purchases. I would like to start some projects for Christmas but not really sure if this will happen. I would really like to win this because I really need the yarn to do these projects that would be impossible to complete if I do not get the yarn free from a contest like this. HELP!!

Being an obsessive yarn addict and hoarder I would love to do two things: pile it up in the middle if the room and jump in it like a pile of leaves, then spend the rest of the day reorganizing my hoard. WHAT FUN!!!!
