Contemporary Granny Ripple Throw

A contemporary take on the traditional ripple.

I’m always on the hunt for a free crochet afghan pattern that is different that anything else I have seen before. Lately, I have been drawn to designs that lean more to the modern contemporary vibe.

From the simple colors to the clean lines, these designs are different enough to keep my attention while I work. I find that with these cleaner designs, combined with the colors and stitches chosen, that the simplicity of the design becomes fresh, modern and a nice focal point in any decor.

I’ve also found that these more modern and contemporary afghan patterns make wonderful gifts to make for the men in your life.  The simple designs will appeal to them, as well as a more subdued color palette.

I recently moved and thought I should start crocheting and knitting again. A small project was what I thought would be best. I haven’t picked up a needle or hook for over 10 years. We don’t have a yarn shop here, and Walmart has yarn so I was set to go. Red Heart* Boutique Sashay Sparkle was my project thinking an easy scarf for a friend would be best. I was able to put the first needle in the first 5 stitches, change hands and it says to pick up the other needle in the right hand and knit between the stitches on the left hand. Knit with what? Maybe I’ve forgotton more than I thought I had. Could someone help?
