Get Comfy with Crochet Basketweave Afghans

August 16, 2013 by AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns 4 Comments

Many crocheters are looking for crochet blanket patterns for thick and warm afghans for the colder months. With the holidays just around the corner, it’s time to think of how what you’re going to crochet for the next few months. My recommendation? Try the basket weave stitch!
This collection of 9 Crochet Basketweave Afghan Patterns will let you try out this popular crochet stitch in a few different ways. I can promise you that all of these afghans are super warm, super cuddly, and super thick.  The basket weave crochet stitch may look complicated, but the repetitive structure of these crochet afghans makes these patterns easy to follow and easy to crochet. You can start small with a couple crochet basketwave squares and work your way up to crochet baby blankets and full crochet afghans. Whatever you decide to crochet, you’ll love the way these patterns turn out.
Here are just two of my favorite basketweave patterns, but don’t miss the whole collection here!

Thick Twist BasketweaveThick Twist Basketweave -This easy crochet pattern from Bernat Yarns is presented in a beautiful basket weave design. The chunky twists add nice a depth to the afghan and give it a unique texture. This blanket makes for a great housewarming gift and would look great in a living room or bedroom. Use a solid colored yarn or select a multicolored yarn to create a whole new look. This afghan is great for beginners and intermediate crochet fans.

This free crochet afghan square pattern will show you how it’s done using the basketweave stitch. This pattern uses a J hook and worsted weight yarn and is completed with a nice crochet border. I could see this pattern being used in a variety of crochet projects. I bet it would look super cute in a crochet sampler blanket!

It’s postings like these that let me know I’m in synch with the yarn universe! Abit less than 2 weeks ago I started Christmas presents-comfy throws for the little people in my life. The girls are easy-oodles of fabulous patterns, colors etc.. The eldest camo loving boy was a bit of a puzzle until I came across the basket weave square like you have pictured. I’ve gone with an assortment of camoflage tan and olive squares joined with black and a random spaced granny square here and there [he likes to stick his fingers and toes thru the “holes”] It’s fairly quick and fun to make. You really cannot do better than the classic stand-bys and it’s good to be reminded from time to time!
