On June 1, our friends at AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns launched their Charity Blanket Drive with the help of Red Heart Yarn. This is an amazing opportunity that benefits kids in need. All blankets we receive will be donated to the Chicagoland chapter of Project Linus, and then passed along to comfort children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need.
To date, we have received 15 homemade blankets! A special thank you goes out to everyone that has participated so far. We’re blown away at the gorgeous afghans we’ve received and we know the kids are going to love them all.

If you have not yet sent in your blankets, there’s still time! The Charity Blanket Drive runs until July 15th. All you need to do is make a blanket and send it in (see our address below); it’s that easy! The blankets must be washable and can be knitted, crocheted, quilted or crafted from fleece. Find additional information and important guidelines here.
Once we receive your blanket (see our address below), you are automatically entered to win this special prize package from Red Heart Yarns.
Included in this prize package is:
- One (1) large red and black canvas tote bag with the Red Heart Yarn logo.
- Ten (10) skeins of Red Heart Plush Baby yarn in Kiwi, along with one corresponding crochet baby blanket pattern
- One (1) package of Susan Bates plastic yarn needles
- One (1) Susan Bates aluminum crochet hook (size I-9)
- Six (6) crochet magazines and brochures (including Crochet Today!) full of free tutorials and color photos

Wow, I didn’t see this until today but will dig out some of my “having a baby” stash and send one. What a great idea and a great way to serve and comfort. Thanks for the opportunity.
I belong to a group here at Incline Village (Lake Tahoe), Nevada, who does all sorts of charitable work for local charities. Unfortunately, everything I make, I donate to that group to support hospice, family clinics, chemo clinics, The Pet Nework, Tahoe Family Solutions, Tahoe Forest Hospital and many, many more. I’m sure whomever gets these will be thrilled. I LOVE donating to our local charities, and using my time to make things that are always appreciated by those who have naught. Thank you for doing this…

Started a new pattern for a blanket last week in June, about half way through I realized I didn’t like it.. ripped out last week & started new one, hope it’s done in time.
I had promised to donate a baby blanket but broke my wrist in early June, it is still in a cast so have not been able to do any crocheting. Sorry about that, maybe next time I can. It is hunt and peck in order to even type.
I mailed three blankets to the Charity Blanket Drive. They are fleece with crocheted edges. I hope they are satisfactory. Thanks!
I will try to get a blanket in on time. I love the bird blanket w/ mama bird holding a baby bird toy. Does anyone have that pattern?
I haven’t yet learned to crochet or knit, but hope to soon, so hopefully I can participate next time!
