Looking for a New Crochet Pattern Book?

Heart's Delight Baby LayettesHeart’s Delight Baby Layettes by Michelle Crean
Review Written by Marie Segares of Underground Crafter

Heart’s Delight Baby Layettes by Michelle Crean is a crochet pattern booklet available in print or as a PDF e-book from Annie’s. The booklet contains two layette sets, each with a bonnet, booties, and bottle cover. The girl’s set includes a Christening dress while the boy’s set includes a sweater, and there is also a pattern for a unisex blanket included. All the patterns are rated at the intermediate skill level. The patterns are sized from 0-3, 3-6, or 0-6 months.

What I like about this booklet:

The instructions include clear pattern notes and each part of the project is separated with bold type. For example, on His Sweater, the pattern sections include yoke, left shoulder & front, right shoulder & front, body, sleeve, cuff, and edging. This makes the patterns much easier to follow.

Like other pattern booklets from Annie’s, the binding allows you to lay the booklet flat while crocheting so it is easy to read the patterns. It is also thin enough to be portable.

Each project is photographed against a light or white background so the details are visible.

All of the projects use the same weight of yarn (DK or sport weight) and suggested hook size.

What’s missing:

The booklet only uses U.S. pattern terminology and there are no international stitch symbols.

Both sets are very similar stylistically, so there isn’t a great diversity in the projects.

Overall, I would recommend this book to an intermediate crocheter who enjoys making baby gifts or who crochets for infant charities. This would also be a nice gift for an expectant mother who crochets.

Full disclosure: A review copy of this book was provided by Annie’s.

You can find other great books and DVD’s from CutRateCrafts!
