Crochet Pattern of the Day: Butterfly Wings Scarf

The Butterfly Wings Scarf is a quick and easy crochet scarf pattern to work up this weekend. Choose your two favorite colors of worsted weight yarn and get to work! Just one skein of each color is needed to work up this classic crochet scarf pattern.

Butterfly Wings Scarf

SIZE:
Scarf measures:  7” x 58“

MATERIALS:

  • RED HEART Super Saver:  1 skein each 0332 Ranch Red, 0400 Grey Heather
  • Crochet Hook:  5.0mm (US H-8) or size needed for gauge

GAUGE:
4 rows – 2 ½”
Shell, 3 dc – 3 ¼”

SPECIAL STITCH:
Shell – (3 dc, ch 3, sc, ch 3, 3 dc) in space as indicated in instructions.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Row 1: With red ch 26, sc in 2nd ch from hook, [ch 3, skip 3 chs, sc in next ch] across, turn.
Row 2 (RS): Ch 1, sc in first stitch, ch 2, sc in next ch space, Shell in next ch space, sc in next ch space, ch 2, sc in next ch space, Shell in next ch space, sc in next ch space, ch 2, sc in last stitch, turn.
Row 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in next ch 2 space, ch 3, sc in next ch 3 space, ch 3, sc in next ch 3 space,
ch 3, 3 dc in next ch 2 space, ch 3, sc in next ch 3 space, ch 3, sc in next ch 3 space, ch 3, 2 dc in last ch 2 space, dc in last stitch, turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in first stitch, ch 2, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, skip 1 ch 3 space, Shell in next ch 3 space, sc in next ch 3 space, ch 2, sc in next ch 3 space, Shell in next ch 3 space, skip next ch 3 space, sc in next dc, ch 2, skip 1 dc, sc in last dc, turn.
Row 5: Ch 3 and continue with Row 3.
Row 6: Ch 1, continue with Row 4.
Row 7: Ch 3, continue with Row 3, turn and fasten off.
Row 8: Join grey in first dc, sc in same stitch, ch 2, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, skip 1 ch 3 space, Shell in next ch 3 space, sc in next ch 3 space, ch 2, sc in next ch 3 space, Shell in next ch 3 space, skip next ch 3 space, sc in next dc, ch 2, skip 1 dc, sc in last dc, turn.
Row 9: Ch 3 and continue with Row 3.
Row 10: Ch 1 and continue with Row 4.
Row 11: Ch 3 and continue with Row 3, turn and fasten off.

COLOR SCHEME:
Continue pattern repeating Rows 2 – 11 for a total of 97 rows as follows:
(6 rows red, 4 rows grey) 8 more times, 6 rows red, turn and do not fasten off.

EDGING
With right side facing and red work 25 sc evenly spaced across top edge and fasten off.
With right side facing work 25 sc evenly spaced across bottom edge and fasten off.
