Crochet Stitches: Learn the Bobble Stitch

September 28, 2012 by AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns 2 Comments

No more excuses crocheters. This is a must-learn stitch and you just can’t put off any longer. Here’s why:

  • AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns.com has some B-E-AUTIFUL Afghans that use the bobble stitch.
  • This stitch adds texture to your projects.
  • It also adds bulk to Afghans and hats, which makes them nice and cozy.

What’s a bobble stitch you ask? It’s a combination of four double crochet stitches or half double crochet stitches in the same stitch, but you leave each double crochet stitch incomplete without pulling through the last stitch. You then link them together at the end.

It requires some math, and a little thought, but this stitch isn’t super complicated once you get the hang of it. I like to keep a pen and paper handy to help me keep track of stitches. I’m a pretty visual person, and I definitely didn’t major in math in college. So if I can do it, you can too!

Grandma Dots Bobble SquareThis is a perfect square to test your new skills on. It’s fun design will make you want to crochet even more bobbles. This stitch is a bit addicting. I think this pattern would look super in bright colored yarn too!

Small Blackberry Striped Baby Blanket

I use the 5 double crochet bobble, popcorn, stitch than 5 double crochet fan stitch . I have a couple people at work ordering baby, lap and full bed afghans with these stitches. I gave her the baby one I just finished the bed one and now making the body one.
