Last weekend I had the pleasure of not only meeting, but crocheting with Monika and Erika Simmons of the Double Stitch Twins. Now you might know them as the designers of some of the most awesome crochet patterns on Red Heart, but now I personally know them as the trendiest fashionistas in the crochet world. The class I took was called Crochet Style Study: Remix with the Crochet Fashionista’s. I really enjoyed myself because it was a small and intimate class allowing Monika and Erika to work closely with each of us. We learned how to turn plain items into something beautiful just by adding a bit of crochet. We each started with a short sleeve t-shirt and left with a long sleeve crochet t-shirt, giving us the opportunity to work up the other sleeve on our own with the new found skill we just learned. Monika and Erika said they love bright colors as they’re more fun and they are “flamboyant”. They said they look at photos that are not crocheted and that’s how they get inspired.
I was lucky enough to conduct a quick interview with them as well, and I really think you’re going to like what they had to say:
On average, how much time do you put towards coming up with a new design?
Do you find it difficult to balance your love of crochet and designing with family life and being a mom?
What’s your favorite pattern you’ve designed and how did you come up with it?
What trend do you want to see implemented in your designs?
My favorite Double Stitch Twins pattern is the Multicolored Poncho; the colors are just stunning! You might also like:
