Fingerless mitts! They’re quick, practical, and a great place to try out stitch or color patterns, since they’re not much bigger than a swatch. They can be made in so many different gauges, in the round or on straight needles. And if you’ve just finished a hat, scarf, or cowl and have small amounts of yarn left, it might just be enough for a pair of mitts to match!

My addiction is knitting and have been knitting for 50 years. We spend our winter skiing in B.C. This year, I fractured my ankle skiing. For whatever reason, I brought extra yarn this trip and itI has saved my sanity. My cast should come off this Thursday, a good thing now that I am running short of yarn. But, I have to admit, I have relished the fact that I can knit for hours per day and create some amazing hats, scarves and slippers. My sanity is intact and I have accomplished many projects this trip. To win this scarf, would be the icing on the cake. I hope to be knitting another 50 years!

Because I live in a hot climate, it feels most comfortable to knit big, heavier-weight things in the winter — a blanket not made up of strips or motifs or an oversized sweater out of worsted or bulky wool. It feels cozy on my lap, and I have an incentive to get it finished while I can still use it!
