Free Pattern Friday – Easy Knit Owl Pillow from Yarnspirations

Merry (almost) Christmas, yarnies, and happy Free Pattern Friday! We’re definitely not going to stop bringing you free patterns right before Christmas, but we understand if you want to take some time to be with your family before starting in on this adorable knitting project. Today we’ve got this owl pillow pattern that’s super easy for those new to the knitting world and cute enough that advanced knitters will love to work one up, as well! EASY KNIT OWL PAILLOW

MATERIALS
Caron® Simply Soft® (6 oz/170.1 g; 315 yds/288 m)
Contast A Orange (9778) 1 ball
Contrast B Robins Egg (9780) 1 ball
Size U.S. 8 (5 mm) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge.
Stuffing.
Stitch marker.
Darning needle.
4 buttons (2 large, 2 small).
Black felt.
Glue gun.

MEASUREMENTS
Approximately (Approx) 7″ [18 cm] tall x 18” [45.5 cm] around.

GAUGE
18 stitches (sts) and 24 rows = 4″ [10 cm] in stocking stitch.

Alt = Alternate(ing)
Approx = Approximately
Beg = Beginning
Cont = Continue(ity)
K = Knit
Kfb = Increase 1 stitch by knitting into front and back of next stitch
PM = Place marker
RS = Right side
St(s) = Stitch(es)
WS = Wrong side

INSTRUCTIONSCapture
With A, cast on 9 stitches (sts).
1st row: (Right side – RS). (Knit into front and back of next stitch – Kfb) 8 times. Knit last stitch (K1). 17 stitches (sts).
2nd and alternate (alt) rows: Knit.
3rd row: (Kfb. K1) 8 times. K1. 25 sts.
5th row: (Kfb. K2) 8 times. K1. 33 sts.
7th row: (Kfb. K3) 8 times. K1. 41 sts.
9th row: (Kfb. K4) 8 times. K1. 49 sts.
11th row: (Kfb. K5) 8 times. K1. 57 sts.
13th row: (Kfb. K6) 8 times. K1. 65 sts.
15th row: (Kfb. K7) 8 times. K1. 73 sts.
17th row: (Kfb. K8) 8 times. K1. 81 sts.
Place marker (PM) at end of row.
18th row: Knit.

Beginning (beg) with a knit row, work in stocking stitch (st) – (Knit Right side (RS) rows and purl Wrong side (WS) rows) until work from marked row measures 3″ [7.5 cm], ending on a purl row. Join B. Do not break A.
With B, work 6 rows in stocking st. Break B.
With A, continue (cont) in stocking st until work from marked row measures 6½” [16.5 cm], ending on a knit row. Cast off knitwise.

Finishing
Fold work flat. Sew back seam, matching stripe.
Stuff toy lightly. Sew top seam. Sew smaller button on top of larger button.
Sew on buttons for eyes.
Cut triangle out of felt 1″ [2.5 cm] wide and 1½” [4 cm] tall for Beak. With glue gun, glue Beak in place.
