Are you like me? I am addicted to three major things.
- Computer / Internet
- Crocheting
When I think about my day, I am completely addicted to searching for patterns through AllFreeCrochet.com. Some patterns really wow me. And there are those that I start to mentally dissect the minute I see them. If I were do the same pattern, what yarn would I use? How long would it take? Do I really want to invest my time into the project?
I think with so many options for finding the perfect pattern, I might be overwhelmed with the vast selections and creativity others are willing to share. Sharing can include posting patterns through AllFreeCrochet or even linking to projects through Facebook.
Should we even discuss Facebook? I am on there all day, everyday. When I am out shopping or doing something constructive, my mind is wondering “What is happening on Facebook?” I start thinking of new status updates to use –Oh my word, admitting this out loud is making me feel like a psycho.
The reality and the point to my admissions is that I think I am part of a new generation that is reliant on the internet to share and inspire creativity. But this generation is also addicted to the internet. I know first hand that if the power suddenly went out, then I might actually do something constructive and get more projects done. Oh wait… my computer systems are backed up by a battery generator… Okay… I’ve just admitted I am nuts!
Seriously though, the internet is a great resource tool, but it can also suck your time away before you know it. I think I need to come up with a schedule to best utilize my time.
So this is where you come into play. I would love to hear what people do to limit their time online. Remember, I’m addicted, so what would you say to encourage me to get off the computer and onto my favorite hobby? Leave a comment and share your thoughts with me. I’ll be checking back throughout the week.
See you next Wednesday for another addition of Knotty Crochet Wednesday with Mikey.

I had one game on fb that I was totally addicted to. I used my acct, my son’s and husband’s accounts too to play. I made a New Years resolution and quit cold turkey. This is the first resolution I’ve ever kept. I still have a hard time limiting my time on the Internet (fb, reading blogs, visiting crochet sites) so I’m going to be closely watching here to see what others suggest. I have the same “addictions” you have but throw in reading from my 2 Kindles. I have the Kindle 3G that reads to me when I crochet and I have the Kindle Fire with great color and the ability to go on line easier and also to watch movies on. Gawd, I sound like an advertisement lol. Love all you do for us Mikey.
I’m afc and The crochet crowd alot!! If I have a deadline I am pretty good about limiting my time. However I have a lot of projects that don’t have a deadline and they get put off. I recently decided to give my self some goals so I can what’s in my head and on my hook. Since I started setting my own goals I’ve gotten better and when it’s focus time I turn off you computer and my smart phone otherwise I can get distracted.
I don’t have this problem – crochet wins hooks down! I work on the computer all day 5 days a week, so I’m only on at home 2 or 3 times a week – but I crochet EVERY DAY.
I have certain times of the day that are associated with the computer and the hook. Early morning the computer while I watch the sun come up. Night the hook while I watch the sun go down and of course when I am ever in front of the TV with my favorite shows!
Mikey that sounds so like me…. looking for more patterns…. I am running out of room for them…. Gotta get myself a Nook or Kindle to store them on. I can only crochet in the evenings after work, but that is my passion…..
I have a tendency of doing the same thing. I have found that if I limit myself to short bursts and make myself do something constructive during the next 15mins (or longer if in the groove) then I can go back for 5mins till house and everyday chores are done. Then I can get away from it and play with my hooks…anything for my hooks. I Hook while surfing at night. Different pattern sights, new yarns and materials to try. Different ideas to try with recycled items or even my sewing. Just depends on my surf mood. But if I don’t limit I don’t get anything done. Speaking of…I have to go fold laundry. Have a great day everyone.
I’m fighting this one too. I’m recently retired which removes a lot of time limitations. I figure I will need to live to be at least 100 to complete all the patterns I’ve collected from various sites. Often I can’t crochet as I have degenerative discs in my neck but there are many other crafts I hope to complete as well. I guess the only solution for me is longevity.
