2nd Annual Gift Giving Video Series: Gift 1 Truffle Scarves

September 12, 2012 by Michael Sellick

Welcome everyone to the 2nd Annual Series of 12 Gift Giving Ideas. Last year, I came up with this concept on Halloween night. I had to really put my butt into gear to get the tutorials and designs done so people could have time to make the gifts. Stay tuned in the weeks to come as I spread some cheer with a new gift ideas for 2012!

When choosing good gift ideas, I look for new products or trends that have come forth through the year. I also try to keep the products seen in the video tutorials inexpensive unless the item shown is really compelling. And the gifts are relatively quick to make since we don’t always have the luxury of months to complete one project before Christmas.

Gift 1 – Truffle Scarves

I recently found the Bernat Truffles yarn at a major retailer and bought a few balls to try it out. Using only 5 stitches across on US 8 (4.5 mm) knitting needles, you can make a full size Truffle scarf with only one ball of yarn pretty quickly. Follow the video tutorial to learn how to make a stylish gift with this unique Bernat yarn.

True Story About Last Year’s Series:

I was at the local coffee shop getting a cup of tea. In front of me in line was a woman wearing the Puff Ball Scarf as seen in the last year’s 12 Gifts Video Series. I turned to Daniel and quietly told him, “That’s my scarf from the series.” I never said anything to the women in the shop but she did a really great job on her scarf. When I was going back to my car, I heard the woman yell ‘hey’ and saw her  running toward me. She was so excited to meet me and shared her story of how she found the scarf tutorial online and worked on the project. She thought I lived in California and was passing through town on holidays. As it turned out, we were practically neighbors and she didn’t even realize it.

Stay tuned next Wednesday as I give you the 2nd Gift of Christmas.
