I have never tried your yarn, but if I win I would be happy to make something with it. Looks like a light weight yarn so maybe a dressy sweater or even a shall.

I love Halloween. I dress in my witch costume at 7 a.m. and go about the business of the day in that outfit. I’m retired, so, I ‘trick or treat’ at various stores I regularly shop. In the past, I’ve received a free ice cream cone, a cup of coffee at my usual breakfast spot, and, best of all, I receive wonderful smiles from strangers all day.

My favorite thing about October is cooler weather and my goats kidding! They are so cute and tiny. They look like popcorn popping all over the pasture. Also, with the cooler weather, I can finally consider Christmas presents and begin designs for my family and loved ones! (and maybe even a tiny sweater for a nigerian dwarf kid!)

What I love most about October is hard to define to only one thing. October is a month of changes. I think I like that the most. Change from hot to cool, the crisp breeze, the falling of the leaves, putting marshmallows in my hot chocolate because I am so addicted to chocolate of any kind. Everything changes in October with it so many possibilities, and I am a believer that change should always be good.

He has been there for me through thick and thin has the BIGGEST heart and surprised me last chrstmas with a Ruby and diamond ring in the shape of a pear he told me to wear the narrow end of the pear so it would be close to my heart(its also HIS) birthstone. He has always supported my love for knitting and we are getting ready for a trip to see the leaves change. He bought me some autumn colored yarns to inspire me…

I love having the doors and windows open at least in the morning, especially after 3 months of a cooped up, blistering hot desert summer! I love the fact we get to pretend we have “fall” and can color paper leaves to put in the windows. Crafts with our little ones and some Halloween music playing makes the days and nights enjoyable.

I love the autumn color palette here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The oranges and reds of the sugar maples, the constant shimmering golds of the poplars, and the russets of the oaks, combined with the constant multiple shades and textures of the conifers is an inspiration for many of my knitting and crochet projects. And even better, I get to wear all those warm socks, sweaters, mittens and hats that have been hid away for the summer!

I live in Eastern Canada where the fall coloured trees leave you thinking you are in a high priced painting. The migrating birds abound and thre is sigthing of rare ones. The whales are still here, but you can tell they are getting ready to leave. The mornings are crisp, but hte afternoons are still warm enough for T-Shirts. It is an amazing place to live – but the best of all is that evenings are just right for a little fire to sit by and knit!

October contains four favorite things, Fall, my and my mother’s birthdays, two days apart, and one of my favorite holidays growing up, Halloween!!! This one is sad, though, my mother passed away last year, so automatically, it’s hard to feel cheerful and want to celebrate our birthdays when she’s not here. On top of that, I’ve been ill with a bad viral upper respiratory infection that has been just awful. I miss her so much and she taught me to knit which inspired me to teach myself to crochet, then I taught her to crochet. I can’t knit or crochet without thinking of her. It’s a soothing, comforting activity for me. I may be sick and can’t celebrate with friends like I’d planned, but I will be knitting… or crocheting… And thinking of you, Mom!!! <3

Living as I do in the beautiful Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, Canada , it is the colors of fruit stands piled high with pumpkin, squash and gourds ,apples ,pears , tomatoes and ground crops. The mountains with vibrant slashes of colors echo the orchards and vineyards pallet. I get to pile on the wooly sweaters ,hats and fingerless gloves and go out and take pictures of natures finery. I spend my evenings crocheting or knitting afghans for those that need to keep warm.

My favorite thing about October, its hard to pin down one thing. My husband and I got married in October because I love the weather and colors so much. I love baking every pumpkin recipe I can find. Hot spiced cider. Making crafts with my daughter. Is really hard to choose just one thing to be my favorite. I find that in October I have more time to do my hobbies because the weather turns cold and we don’t play outside as much. Every year I sit and sew my daughter a new Halloween costume, a tradition my mother started when I was a little girl. I really love everything about October.

October where I am currently living – on a rough shored island in the Pacific-brings the first sweet tangerines hanging like jewel toned globes on a Christmas tree, golden and purple lilikoi filled with tart juice to be pressed and frozen for cranberry-lilikoi sauce and signals the beginning of a long festival season: daughters and granddaughters birthdays, and the fullness of memories from my own New England childhood as I begin gifting making that spans 6,000 miles.

Also, the colors of foliage are gorgeous, the autumn sky is a breathtaking shade of blue, the air smells like decaying leaves, the pumpkins are ready to harvest, it’s cool enough outside to fire up the oven and bake muffins and breads, the geese are congregating, it’s hayride time and the kids are planning their costumes. The very best thing about October is that the hot sunny days of summer are over and you can start planning for the cold days inside when you can devote more time to knitting or other fiber crafts. I love planning and then carrying out the projects, new and old, that are available. The joy of finding all the new brands of yarn that are available is the best thing you can do with the exception of getting them home and starting each new project.

My favorite thing about October is that it is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Breast Cancer runs in my family so we are very big supporters of all forms of Cancer awareness and research, we walk in the Komen 3day each year, race for the cure, etc. so for us October is all about spreading the word and raising awareness!

Also this year, my Alpaca Benny is “Mr. October” on the Firwood Farms Alpacas calendar… I’ve been waiting all year to have his sweet face on my calendar every day :o)

In October, we have gorgeous fall colors on the trees, and the weather’s finally turned just cold enough so sweaters outside (and a blanket at night) feel cozy rather than overheated. The farmers are finishing up the harvest, and some enterprising residents gather corn kernels which fall off the trucks carrying the harvest to the grain elevators. (Those folks have to watch for highway traffic during their “gleaning” forays, though!)

Well, October is sort of hard for me because my mom died of breast cancer in 2006 (October 3rd) and my dad died of colon cancer in 1996 (October 21st). I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 in October. BUT…the great news is that I passed my 5 year marker and am cancer free! YAY! Also love the cooler weather, I can wear some of my woolies…lol.

The thing I like the most is Halloween. I have five daughters, from 35yr. to 11yr. I have made a lot of costumes! I now have 3 granddaughters and a grandson and I knit and crochet for them. I love the challenge to my creativity when we make the costumes to be as real as possible. The colors and fun we enjoy during this time makes for great memories. Now that the girls are older, it’s also a nice time for me to make some things that please me. I would love to make that beautiful shawl to wear as I sit on my deck and enjoy the colors of both the trees and the sunset.

I very rarely make anything for myself, always for baby’s or relatives. Right now I am working on a sports team afghan for my brother, It’s a surprise for Christmas. But I have to tell you this yarn is beautiful. It is something I would never buy for myself. I know it is very expensive but the color is stunning and I have green eyes. It would be nice to whip up a prayer shawl or lacy infinity scarf. Thanks for the chance!

There is Thanksgiving itself, a time to reflect on what life has gifted to us. And of course, there’s the Meal, followed by turkey sandwiches and casseroles. There are all the family birthdays, incuding my own on the 31st. The best part, though: holding the hand of a small child while we walk through the piles of leaves beside the street, kicking them up in the air.

What I don’t like about Oct–is all the falling leaves thay I have rake when I would rather curl up on the couch and crochet with your lovely yarn with a fire in the fire place–but still it is a nice time of the year and I do like being outside raking the leaves as much as I don’t want to admit it!~

I love the changing colors of fall in October. The air has a smell to it all its own, giving you a scent of the change in the coming season. There is a squirrel in a tree out in front of my house and I enjoy watching him hoarding acorns and such for the coming winter. Making various projects in fall colors is fun…the grandkids never know what I will be making next. Every year I make new hats with matching scarfs and mittens, not only for my 12 grandkids but for friends as well. At Christmastime we have mystery gift exchange with the cousins, have never had a complaint yet! I would be great to win some yarn, no matter what color!

I have many favorite things about October! I love the smell of the crisp clear air, the crunching of leaves underfoot, the glorious colors that Mother Nature paints in the trees, the sweet crisp new apples by the bushel, the rich earthy tones, and to top it all off October is the month my late husband and sister were born! What’s not to celebrate about OCTOBER! <3

I love the big variations of weather in October in Wisconsin. It can be a beautiful blue-sky summer-like day one day, and gray-skies rainy and high in the 30s the next day. The leaves are glorious, and the gone from the trees. Every day is amazing!

My favorite things about October have to be watching the leaves on the trees reach peak color. Being able to pull out those heavy projects to finish…such as afghans and shawls. Fresh apples right off the tree and the smell of the crisp air and of course watching the kids on Halloween all dressed up in there cute costumes.

I live in the south, and it is usually pretty hot until the end of September. I love October because the cooler air finally arrives. Eventually in the month the trees begin to turn colors. I think of my daughter’s birthday as the first sign of Autumn. It is on the 13th.

My favorite things about October is the changing colors of all the leaves here in New England. You start the beginning of the month with the colors in the hilly areas and end the month with the colors finally reaching the shoreline. It is a month of color. It also means Stitches East either in Oct or November this year. Can’t wait!
