knit sock patterns

I like to think that socks are perfect for springtime knitting, as they’re light weight, versatile and often quick to knit. Here are some of my favorite socks for spring — they’re for all levels of experience, and better yet, they’re all free patterns.

longing for spring

Right off the bat, a lovely little pair of toe-up, lace socks. They look stunning in both solid and variegated yarn. Pattern: Longing for Spring

Following, is a toe-up pair that feature a Japanese short-row heel and clever stitches that emulate a plant in bloom. Pattern: Kaika

cadence

Next up, these top-down socks feature swooping lace with a cabled appearance. Solid or tonal yarn will really bring out this complex-looking pattern! Pattern: Cadence

I can’t get enough of these lace socks! Top-down, they feature both lace and cables, with a scalloped cuff. Pattern: Twinkleberry

diagonal lace

A fun diagonal lace pattern makes these toe-up socks a breeze! Pattern: Diagonal Lace Socks

These top-down socks are perfect for handpainted or variegated yarn. Pattern: Dragonfly Socks

butterfly garden

Fun toe-up socks featuring panels of cables, perfect for tonal yarn. Pattern: Paper Moon Socks

A stunning pair of toe-up socks that feature butterflies (!), lace panels, and picot cuff. Pattern: Butterfly Garden

These top-down socks are glamorous! The lace pattern creates a beautiful bouquet of roses. It features panels of leaves topped with a beautiful blooming rose and picot cuffs. Pattern: Roses

effervesce

A personal favorite of mine, this top-down pair showcase bubbly cables. These socks look equally beautiful in variegated and solid yarn. Pattern: Effervesce

Bonus: if you’re up for a challenge, how about these extraordinary socks? Knit Magic Loop, one is worked top-down, the other is worked toe-up. Pattern: Semki
