I Love Yarn Day Crochet Along: Groovy Berry Crochet Messenger Bag Part 4

October 13, 2016 by Stitch&Unwind 56 Comments

Welcome to Day 4 of our week-long celebration of I Love Yarn Day 2016 and another installment of Stitch & Unwind’s I Love Yarn Day Crochet Along! Today, we are so excited to share the next installment of the Groovy Berry Crochet Messenger Bag.

Don’t forget: if you missed any of the previous posts, you can find them all here.

I Love Yarn Day 2016

Today, our friend Mary Beth Temple will be showing you how to complete the bottom right corner of the messenger bag. As seen below, this corner of the bag features another variation of the post stitch, but this one only uses two colors total. By placing post stitches in rows of single crochet, you’ll see a checkerboard pattern start to emerge.

Groovy Berry Crochet Messenger Bag
Groovy Berry Crochet Messenger Bag

The Groovy Berry Crochet Messenger Bag is a wonderful way to learn various crochet techniques since the front of the bag features four distinct panels. This crochet along will help you expand your crochet colorwork vocabulary while still working with only one color of yarn at a time.

And now, without further ado, check out the fourth installment of the crochet along by watching this helpful step-by-step video tutorial:

I taught a left-handed person how to crochet (I’m right-handed!) and I even taught my husband how to crochet. So now when he asks for a new washcloth, hat, or scarf, I tell him “well, you know how to do it, go for it!!” But I usually end up making them for him, because I’m a sucker and I kinda like the guy a little!!

I taught my girlfriend’s daughter how to crochet. I never realized she paid any attention to items I made, until she approached me about it when she was 17 years old. I often made her hats, scarves, etc., since she was born. I was just thrilled to teach her. Over 10 years later, and now she is making gifts for friends and family!

I was taught to crochet over 50 years ago by a dear friend of the family. While I am still at it I try to teach anyone who is interested. I taught my daughter’s friend over ten years ago and she still loves to make all of her own scarves. A wonderful way to spend time with younger people.

Hi, I just found your site and really like the messenger bag. i am going back and watching all the previous videos but noticed that the pattern given for day 3 does not describe what Mary is doing in the video. The pattern from day 3 actually coincides with the video for today (day 4). Could you post the pattern that describes the video on day 3?
At the same time the pattern posted today on Day 4 seems to describe the video which come tomorrow for the last front panel of the bag.

    Thanks so much. Great patterns!

My mom and grandmother both taught me how to crochet and I taught my daughter and am now teaching my best friend. She knew how to crochet before but due to a traumatic brain injury and subsequent amnesia had to relearn many things we all take for granted. Together we plan to learn how to knit. This pattern will be fun for both of us to do.

I am in the process of teaching my niece how to crochet. She’s going through a difficult phase and crocheting together gives her something positive to focus on and is helping us to bond. We sit together and work on our own projects. I give her directions, one step at a time, and she is picking up on it so quickly. . We are now doing a crochet-along together. We picked out a pattern for each of us and, once a week, we send each other 2 steps from the pattern. It is such a special, bonding experience for both us. It’s teaching us both patience. I’m so proud to share my passion for crochet with the most special little girl in my life.

I have been crocheting for 26 years, I have taught a friend and my son and most recently as I’ve been in hospital 7 weeks, my sister. She’s here everyday and I’ve been making thank you gifts for nurses. So know she sits learning, she used to ask why do you like doing that it looks boring, I said it’s fun and relaxing, now she tells me oh my I know what you mean I can’t put down

Yes. I have actually taught two people to crochet. My youngest daughter and my oldest granddaughter. I am left-handed and they are both right-handed. It was a challenge but a fun one. Being left-handed, I found the simplest why to teach someone crocheting is to have them sit in front of you as u work. Then once they get the basics down, I sit with them and guide their hand if necessary.

I started crocheting and knitting when i was 10 years old. I am left handed and had to find someone very patient, but i learned and have been crocheting and knitting ever since. Over the years through my church i have had the opportunity teach groups of young girls. hopefully they will pass along the skills to the next generation.
