Into the Woods: 8 Log Cabin Afghans

March 29, 2014 by AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns 2 Comments

Did you ever play with Lincoln Logs as a kid? I always loved tinkering with the small wooden logs creating tiny houses for my toys to live in. Just because I may have outgrown my childhood toy, doesn’t mean I can’t continue celebrating it in adulthood! Log cabin afghans are just like Lincoln Logs, only in yarn. Small “log” sections layer together to create a funky square. Switching off the colors creates even more depth and contrast. I just love the unique and fun texture it has once it’s completed. Check out some other log cabin afghans below!Log-Cabin-Afghans

Cool-Crochet-Log-Cabin-AfghanCool Crochet Log Cabin Afghan – This afghan turns this rustic technique into a modern masterpiece by using bright and bold colors. It’s the perfect piece to throw at the end of your bed for an extra layer of warmth, or drape it over your living room sofa for easy access when you’re watching a movie or reading a book. You’ll like stylish and cozy with this beautiful afghan!

Reversible Log Cabin Crochet Afghan – This afghan uses the log cabin technique with an interesting twist. With the unique layering of the squares, it provides a funky design that’s perfect for any room in your house. Choose lighter pastel colors for a more polished look.

Log Cabin Afghan – This afghan is the epitome of the traditional log cabin technique. It reminds me of the quilts my Grandmother has at her house, except its crocheted! The Log Cabin Afghan is full of rustic charm that will fill your home with a homey feel.

Homey-Crochet-ThrowLog Cabin Granny Square Pattern – Combining two classic techniques, this granny is both traditional and modern. The funky color palette gives it a fun and fresh tone, while the traditional technique and pattern will give you that same homey feel you love.

Whether you want to coordinate the five colors, or bust out your scraps to create a rainbow of colors, this afghan will look dynamite. Plus, it’s beginner friendly!

Homey Crochet Throw – This crochet throw demands some effort, but it’s all worth it in the end. While using the log cabin technique, this afghan is far from traditional. It’s fresh and modern! Alternating variations of two colors you get a unique afghan perfect for any room in your home.

Log Cabin Spread (KNIT) – This knit blanket enlarges the log cabin technique into one giant square. Use funky colors to really make it pop!

My prettiest log cabin afghan is knit. The crochet goes faster, but the knitted ones look more polished.

I have yet to create a log cabin afghan so I cannot say which is my favorite. I will have to attempt both designs and then see.
