Week 2: What to Do this Week
Hi everyone! How did week two go? Those legs are probably looking really great now. You can see the nice CobbleStone effect and it gives a really nice texture. Now we’re ready to split into the different sections for the lower part of the sock.
The first set of stitches will be your outer heel flap, next comes the instep (or the top) of the foot and finally the inner heel flap. Your heel flap sections will be held for the time being on stitch holders – and if you watch the video above, I give a simple but effective tip for holding those stitches so you don’t lose them and don’t have those giant metal safety pins in your way while knitting up your instep.
After splitting up your stitches, we’re going to knit the top of the foot. I suggest threading a lifeline through this first row of stitches or clipping some sort of stitch marker here. You will be measuring the length of your instep from this point – so you’ll want to make sure you keep track of it to make your life easier. Once you’ve split, work a simple stockinette until you’re about an inch or inch-and-a-half from your total desired length. You’ll start your toe decreases at this point. I usually start my decreases about ½” below my big toe, if that makes sense. You can adjust where your decreases are if you need a longer toe or a more square toe – it’s all up to you! The best part of knitting socks is that you’re making them to fit YOUR foot!
Alright, knitters – Let’s get going. Divide and Conquer!
Don’t forget to upload pictures of your progress to our flickr group for your chance to win a fabulous prize from Galler Yarns!

Do we have to have our two sock knitted by the7/8 and post? or just the one we are working on ? Thanks
Kay, Great question! You do not have to have your two socks completed by 7/8. In order to be entered into the competition, just upload a picture of your progress to our Flickr group. Hope this helps!
Where is the next week’s video? I’m stuck on knitting the stitches on the holders.
