Knitting Patterns for Fall Styles

September 25, 2012 by AllFreeKnitting 1 Comment

Autumn officially started last Saturday, September 22nd. And with it came some gusty breezes and the desire to break out some warm knits. Along with the chill in the air, I’ve been noticing a lot of fall styles popping up from different knitting and yarn companies. Shawls, cardigans, and scarves are very popular right now and they’re all easy ways to add some flair to your wardrobe while staying warm.

Shawls

For a long time, I was under the impression that most people considered a shawl to be a granny fashion. But once I entered the knitting world, I discovered (to my excitement) that they are functional and fashionable! AllFreeKnitting has a whole selection of shawl patterns in all sizes. Whether you create a small shawl (aka shawlette), wrap, or full-sized shawl, this one accessory can make an outfit cozy or fancy. Check out some beautiful vintage patterns or see what is popular in modern shawl patterns. My favorite happens to be the Prism Shawl, shown here!

Cardigans

Half of my wardrobe consists of cardigans and sweaters. They’re warm and perfect to throw on over any outfit. Knitting a cardigan definitely takes some time, but the sense of accomplishment at the end of the project is well worth it. Not only do you have something new to wear, but you also can say that you made it. One of our most popular cardigan patterns is the Cozy Collared Cardigan. Bulky yarn and the big collar make this a sweater you can huddle yourself into on a chilly day. For something light and sweet, check out the Cranberry Lace Cardigan. Knit this little number in any shade and you can pair it with pants, a skirt, or dress for a cute outfit.

Scarves

When I say scarves, technically I mean anything around the neck— scarves or cowls. Scarves can be quick and easy to make and instantly block a cool breeze. If you need a knitting fix, just pick up some needles and yarn and stitch through a free scarf pattern. And did I mention that they are perfect for holiday gifts? Check out 25 Free Knit Scarf Patterns for Fall for some of the latest and greatest patterns on AllFreeKnitting. The Mesh Bamboo scarf definitely pops among the darker browns and oranges of the season. Or try making a simple, solid cowl with the Bittersweet Cowl pattern.

For more fall knitting patterns, be sure to check out Free Knitting Designs for Fall: 8 Knit Patterns, Scarves, Bags and More. It’s a small collection of even more warm and toasty knitting patterns!

We all search patterns and save them to hopefully knit. What have you looked at the most: shawls or scarves? And have you gotten around to knitting them?
