My 4th grade teacher taught our entire class how to crochet (so many years ago). I loved it, but didn’t stay with it into adulthood. 2 years ago I learned to knit when I found out I was going to be a grandmother and have now picked the hook back up. I started knitting when I was about 10. Never finished the project I started. When I was in college, a friend knitted so I tried again, but alas, I could not knit straight and never finished that project either. Another friend crocheted and said it was so much easier so I thought I should try that someday. Ten years later, I finally got a hook and learned to crochet. I am a crocheter, it is so much easier for me than knitting, but now I want to try knitting again to see if I can improve, there are so many cute knitting patterns I’d like to try 🙂

My mother taught me how to knit and I made scarves for the army during World War II, and I also made a fancy fish pattern sweater for my husband, followed by a small pink knit sweater for my little girl. And that was enough knitting! So now I crochet, all the time, and love doing it.
I find it very relaxing and stress-reducing, and am (usually) very proud of what I produce with my crochet efforts.

I learned basic knitting and crochet skills as a child but didn’t anything with those skills until quite recently when my daughter gave me some cotton yarn and some knitting needles. I’m back to knitting and interesting enough purchased some crochet hooks last weekend. I need to putter with those now.

I learned to knit in 4-H so I’ve been doing it a long time. Could never seem to learn to crochet on my own so I finally took a class. I’ve always had ‘doily envy’ and I wanted to be able to make my own. Made one small doily in the class but other than an occasional crochet trim I’ve never used crochet since!

I learned to crochet at age 7 and learned to knit after that, which is why I think I knit the continental way because I got used to holding the wool round my left index finger. Love crochet because there is less stitching and prefer to knit top down if possible so that I don’t have to stitch pieces together.

About 6 years ago, I tried to learn more and ended up teaching myself the single, double, and triple crochet stitches (but lost interest after a couple weeks). I learned how to loom knit a few years after that, and recently picked crochet back up again; this time around, I’ve made one (big) granny square afghan, a bunch of shamrocks, a couple bookmarks (with crochet thread), and am currently working on a (baby) ripple afghan. My daughter’s begging me to teach her how to crochet and/or let her try to make something with some leftover yarn!

My aunt taught me how to crochet when I was 6 years old. After several years of not doing anything with it, I picked it back up again in my early 20’s. I learned to knit in my early 40’s by watching YouTube videos. I prefer knitting because I like the look of it better, but if I need to turn out a quick project, I crochet. I hope I win the yarn! I’ve been learning entrelac knitting and that silk would be gorgeous… 🙂

I consider myself a crocheter, but last year I decided there was no reason I couldn’t learn to knit. My husband gave me 2 books for Christmas and I just got in there and taught myself. I started with a washcloth, then did a shawl for a friend, then bit the bullet and made a sweater for my husband which he loves. I finally made an afghan for a friend that took me 7 months, but turned out beautiful. But I’m still more comfortable crocheting. 🙂

l decided that I wanted to learn to knit when I learned that my sister in law was having a baby. It was always a tradition in my family to give and knitted blanket to the new baby. So I picked up a few supplies, wats a few videos, and off I went! Then, I saw all off the adorable amigurumi projects out there and decided that I would teach myself how to crochet as well. Turns out that hasn’t been easy for me to pick up as knitting and I’ve been having too much fun with all the knitting projects I’ve been tackling that I just haven’t gotten back to it yet! But it still out there for me to do and I’m sure I’ll get around to learning crochet eventually.

I am both a knitter and a crocheter. I taught myself to crochet 27 years ago, and (finally) taught myself to knit five years ago. I love both crafts equally, because they serve different purposes. 🙂 I teach myself whatever craft tickles my fancy, because I love the challenge of learning new things and adding new skills to my repertoire.

I can just barely knit and, no, I have not learned to crochet.
The question is also asked about what I would make. I would give the yarn to a friend who makes baby blankets, prayer shawls, scarves, hats, afghans, etc. She gives them away for free.

I’m a knitter and I have tried many times to crochet. I don’t seem to be able to do it very well, um, my squares are never quite square. Finally I invented my own stitch and use it if I want to make a dishcloth or squares for an afghan! My mother wanted to know what stitch it is and I told her I didn’t know! So she watched me do it and she didn’t know either! LOL 😀

As for knitting, watching my big sister and having her teach me how to knit was how I learned. Although I hold the yarn like I’m crocheting which drives her nuts!

When I was in my early fifties, I saw so many beautiful knitted items and then taught myself to knit with help from different knitting sites on the net. I am still learning the ins and outs of knitting but have managed to knit several scarfs, hats and sweaters, some of which were lace! I learned to knit and crochet as a child. First from my Mother and Grandmother, then in school. It was a mandatory craft class and we not only learned knitting and crocheting, but also sewing (by hand and with machine) and stitching (cross stitch mostly). When my daughter was little I crocheted and knitted dresses for her, now it is sweaters and gloves, scarves and hats.

I love to keep my hands busy and what better way to do it than to make something useful. Crocheting stuffed animals for christmas and birthdays, making ornaments and small tokens, just because. Right now I am knitting a baby blanket in squares, without making the squares separately, all in one piece. I like to change patterns to make them easier and faster.

My grandmother taught me, when I was very young, how to knit while we were at the family camp in Maine. My mother taught me how to crochet when I was in my late 40s and she was crocheting for charity. she also taught me to knit in the round and we made numerous baby caps for charity. She passed away in 2010 at age 90. I miss her terribly!

I’m primarily a knitter but I actually learned to crochet first – both crafts when I was a kid. I took to knitting more once I had figured it out, because it goes faster for me on account of being able to do it without looking at the work as much, because the stitches are all lined up on the needle where I can work them by feel. So knitting can happen while watching TV, etc., more easily than crochet! I still sometimes use crochet for edgings on knitted projects, or to crochet the ruffle scarves that are popular nowadays, but other than that I don’t do many purely crocheted projects. But it’s my sister’s 10th anniversary this year and there’s a filet crocheted wall hanging with her name & her husband’s that I started making when she first got married that I really should bring out and finish now that it’s been 10 years!

I consider myself more of a crocheter than a knitter; however, I learned how to knit first. My Gramme, who loves to knit, taught me when I was about 8. I knitted a few scarves and things but never really got into it. I taught myself how to crochet later on, and really loved it. I still knit and want to get more advanced at it, but crochet is my favorite. I would love to crochet this bag for my Gramme for her to use for her knitting supplies!

I’m a 10+yr knitter who taught myself to crochet with a little help from a niece and YouTube. First thing I ever crocheted was a flower for a headband. I like to jump right in and skip the getting to know you phase of learning a new stitch, second project was a scalloped scarf. It’s been a fun journey incorporating my crochet skills into my knitting.

I taught myself everything else I know and am not afraid to tackle anything. When I was pregnant with my son I took a knitting class and learned the continental method of knitting and am better than I was many many years ago.

When I can crochet well, I wonder if it’s worthwhile, but I know lots of people do both well. I should start at the beginning and practice, practice, practice! I do both and love doing both. I decide by the pattern I want to do. I get bored easily, so if I’m making something large, I take breaks and make several small, quick things while I’m working on the afghan or shawl. Switching back and forth keeps me sharp and gives me lots of new and challenging things to learn.

Made a few baby blankets for my children but never really finished a project that I started until about 3 years ago, now I can’t even count how many items I have made. I got back into it by watching YouTube tutorials and crocheting along. Since then I have been able to read patterns. I would love to do the same for knitting. I have tried on my own but it’s not working out so much. It’s the next thing on my bucket list, along with tatting which I refused to learn from my grandmother as a child, and now wish I had. There is nothing better than lovingly making a homemade blanket, baby sweater or baby blanket for those you love. I get such a rush walking through the yarn section of the stores. I walk through and dream what can I make with that color.

I taught myself to knit years ago, and thought that seeing as it was so easy to learn, that teaching myself to crochet, would be even easier, seeing as you only need one needle. Boy was I ever wrong…lol. I still have my hooks and a “learn how to” book, and still want to learn, and will find the patience to do so one day.

I learned to knit when I was 8 and crochet when I was 22. My mother taught me knitting and one of her friends taught me crochet. However, I stopped doing them for many years and started them again in 2005, thanks to a friend who was telling me about a scarf she had knitted, and I got into the mood again, and haven’t been able to stop since.

My mom taught me to crochet when I was 8-years-old. I got frustrated and threw the whole thing across the room. She said if I ever threw it again then she wouldn’t teach me anymore. I crocheted many years learning more complex patterns as time went on. In 2007-I was 27-our church was making hats for homeless people. One of the ladies offered to show me a simple hat knitting pattern and gave me her size 8 needles to keep. She said she had never seen anyone pick it up so quickly. I don’t say that to brag…I just think my many years of crocheting and working with yarn made it easier for me. I am still learning new knitting stitches. I go back and forth between crochet and knit depending on the project. I find it is pretty easy to learn new things on the internet now as well.
