Allow us to introduce you to our latest obsession, Lion Brand’s Heartland yarn. Inspired by the American landscape and made in America, this collection features 28 subtle shades of yarn. It’s an easy-to-care-for worsted weight yarn that belongs in everyone’s yarn stash.
Our friend and crochet blogger Sarah Zimmerman of Repeat Crafter Me was kind enough to review Lion Brand’s Heartland yarn for us, as well as design an original pattern using a few skeins of this wonderful new yarn.
According to Sarah, Heartland yarn is “hands down, one of the softest acrylic yarns” she has ever crocheted with. The yarn “holds up like a standard worsted weight yarn, but it has a silky softness like an expensive specialty yarn,” she says. Although the recommended uses are for garments, afghans and accessories, Sarah thinks it would also be a good choice for a snuggly stuffed animal toy. As soon as she felt the super soft yarn, she knew it would be the perfect yarn to use for a baby hat. This adorable crochet baby hat is the perfect pattern to make with Lion Brand Heartland yarn. The free crochet pattern is written to fit newborn babies, but the pattern is easy enough to adjust for other sizes, if needed. The earflaps will help keep your little one’s head nice and warm. Aside from Heartland yarn, a little bit of stuffing is also used to complete this crochet hat pattern to stuff the elephant’s trunk. Get the full pattern here.
