When we think of crocheters we often don’t put men in the same category. There really is something special about a man who likes to craft and call himself a hooker. I love that term by the way! Well today I’m here to introduce one of our great male crochet designers, Allen Williams.
Allen is the face behind his blog Eating Out Loud. He considers his site “a user guide to my life where I can share all of my constant cravings for cooking, crafting, and surfing the TV or web. It depicts what I make, collect, and do throughout my life.”
Allen’s mother and great grandmother taught him to crochet when he was around eight years old. He made potholders, afghans, hats, and Christmas tree ornaments. He even ventured into cotton crochet of doilies and tablecloths. He finds crocheting to be relaxing and does it mostly in the evenings as a stress reliever from a long day at work.

Free Crochet Pattern from Allen:
Bumpy Popcorn Scarf– This was one of the most popular patterns on our site last year and I don’t doubt it’ll be another hit this year when the weather turns cold again. Three rows of popcorn stitches run throughout the pattern.
Have you ever made a popcorn scarf?

Hi, I’m making the ribbed hat you posted on Eating Out Loud but am struggling with the direction to not stitch the last 5 stitches every fourth row. Mine is not looking at all like your photo. Could you explain further? Perhaps a photo of what you mean?
