Wooly wooly! We are in the month of Wovember! That’s right, I said Wovember. It is a time to celebrate real wool and everything tied to it.
In November of 2011, Kate Davies and Felicity Ford established Wovember.com in order to spread the word about wool. Both were in agreement that terms such as ‘wool’ and ‘woolen’ have been misused to describe clothing and other soft, fuzzy objects. It’s time to give a nod to the animals and people who work with true, 100% wool.
According to Wovember:
“Wovember aims to reinstate the true value of those terms by linking them with the animals and people who raise, produce and process our WOOL.”
The site will lead you into the world of sheep raising and wool gathering. There’s something new to learn everyday and plenty of images to illustrate the world of wool. While visiting, you can sign a petition to show your support or enter the Wovember Photo Competition for the chance to win several different prizes. The Sounds of Wool is quite charming as it provides a number conversations from people involved with fiber, as well as a the soothing sounds of baa-ing sheep.
This month, consider knitting or crocheting with yarn made of 100% wool. Or try your hand at spinning your own yarn using pure wool. Celebrate Wovember this November!
