I don’t know about you, but I’ve been counting down the days to the Olympics ever since the summer started. I’m so excited that the day of the opening ceremony is finally here! I love sitting down with my family, cheering for the USA competitors and oohing and ahhing over their incredible athletic feats.
Though crocheting may not be an Olympic sport, here at AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns we take it pretty seriously! In honor of this momentous day I had to share some amazing Olympic crochet afghans that I believe deserve a gold medal of their own.
The first two afghans are by Sue from SIBOL – Sunshine International Blankets of Love. She has a wonderful blog and donates all the afghans she makes to elderly people in nursing homes.
These two afghans were made using squares that people sent to her from the United States and all over Europe. Sue then pieced them together to create these lovely afghans. I love how each square is so colorful and represents a different country or theme of the Olympics.
The Olympic Rings Afghan featured below is from Maggie’s Crochet. The rings are an iconic part of the games and I really like the way the five colors are incorporated not only in the main design but also in the border of this afghan. Did you know that the five rings represent the five different continents that compete in the games? They are interlinked to represent how athletes from all over the world meet to compete at the Olympics. Make sure you wow your friends and family with that tidbit of Olympic trivia!
Celebrate the Olympics this year by making your own crochet afghan for the occasion. These All-American patterns from AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns are a perfect way to show your support for the USA team. Cheer on all your favorite athletes while you crochet these patriotic patterns. Let the games begin!
