Your Perfect Plaid: 8 Crochet Afghan Patterns

January 14, 2016 by Stitch&Unwind 6 Comments

Let’s face it, crochet afghans are a really great project to make (if you’ve got the time and the yarn, that is.) They make great gifts and fabulous home decor, they’re often repetitive enough that you can work them up in your sleep, and there’s always a sense of accomplishment from finishing such a large project. The problem is that after a while, crochet afghan patterns tend to start blurring together. One ripple looks a lot like another, and it can be tough to get inspired when you’re checking out the same types of patterns over and over again. But have you ever made a plaid afghan before? You’ll want to when you see these free afghan patterns!

While they might not be actual plaid, these fun afghans all have unique patterns that are sure to spice up your crocheting life – and they’re not any harder to make than your typical afghan! If you’re looking for a fresh design to get you out of your crochet rut, you’re going to love these free, easy crochet patterns. Find your perfect one below!

I’d like to see more easy blanket with matching hats, for preemie size and newborn babies. The patterns I see thet have openings where babies this size can their fingers and toes stuck. There for we need either tighter or smaller stitches I am not sure being a newbie at the craft and all. I don’t know what it calls for to rectify the problem.

Hi, a very basic stitch like a single crochet makes a nice tight weave. If you get a pastel tweed yarn it would be great for babies. You get a design without having to do any fancy stitching! I hope this helps!

Hello, can you tell me which pattern was used for the blanket in the picture (green, red & white)?

I have been crocheting for 59 years and this was most aggravating afghan I have ever made. The basic pattern was not the problem. The weaving was most aggravating and wasted so much yarn. I will never offer to make this pattern again for anyone due to the time and waste it took.

I’d love to see men’s patterns in multiple colours, knit or crochet in zigzad
