Prayer Shawls for Rush Charity Drive 2016: Final Count & Giveaway Winner!

As you may remember, from November 7th – December 5th, Stitch and Unwind partnered with Rush University Medical Center [3] to collect handmade prayer shawls for sick patients in need. Readers and yarnies from around the globe took the time to knit [4] or crochet a prayer shawl [5] (or several!) during that time and mailed them to our offices. We’ve unboxed them all, counted them up, and prepared them for transport to Rush, and we have a final total for you today.

The total number of shawls received was… 328!

Rush University Medical Center collects prayer shawls year-round for their palliative care patients and usually receives around 15 shawls per month. In just one month, with your help, we collected nearly 350 shawls – that’s equivalent to the number of shawls the hospital would usually receive in two years’ time! We can’t thank you enough for your donations and your words of comfort and encouragement. Together, we’ve managed to do something pretty incredible.

We’re always thrilled to have the opportunity to work with charities and we’re so excited we were able to collect so many shawls! Thank you to everyone who donated.

Here are just a few of the many beautiful shawls [6] we received. All in all, it took two vehicles to transport them to Rush University Medical Center.
