I’ve delivered 2 toddler afghans to my local Project Linus collection point thus far, and have 2 more baby afghans as WIPs (with plenty of baby-pastels yarn for several more). Of the afghans above, I particularly like the “Baby Granny 3 Ways,” as the familiar granny motif would mean that I could hook away without paying much attention to the written pattern. I would prefer to use bulky & super-bulky baby yarns, but have mostly DK & worsted-weight in baby colors currently (maybe I could double-strand?).
Your afghans would be wonderful double-stranded, particularly if you use 2 different colors. Children love bright colors. Which yarns you use together will determine the weight and thickness of the afghan. Personally, I would use one DK yarn with one worsted yarn: warmth without weight for toddlers; and 2 DK yarns for infants — light enough to carry or put in a diaper bag, but also warm.
#6 looks nice. I’m working on a baby blanket now that is a sampler blanket. Trying to get comfortable with different stitches and learning how they should look. I make them for shower gifts.
I just crocheted and gifted a granny square birthday afghan to my great-granddaughter for her christening. Her birthday is in February: birthstone is amethyst, flower is violet. I used a varying number of rows in light amethyst and purple. It’s not a large afghan, but she’ll be able to use it for many years. I like granny square afghans because I have arthritis, and can stop to rest my hands at any time without worrying about where I am in a pattern.
Number 4 is very pretty
If my count is right, I have made one for each of my grand children,13. Plus I have made a few more just for the fun of it. I like the baby stripes, ripple pastel and the pastel plaid. I am working on a pink, gray and white lacy ripple lapghan right now.
I think they are all beautiful! I was drawn to #9.
I made blanket #7 when my grandson was a year old (about 2 years ago). It was a lot of fun to make — I made each monkey face a little different (adding lips, eyelashes & hair on some of them, then giving each one a different expression). The other nice thing about this blanket is it is a nice take-along project — I took it to softball & bowling practices and assembled the squares at home when finished. I made one other baby blanket for my step-niece’s daughter — it was a simple dc blanket made of soft worsted weight yard and matched a little dress, headband and sandals I made as well (mostly ivory, but with pale pink flowers & sage green leaves).
