I start thinking about Christmas gifts in the summer because they usually take me a bit longer to make. Things like shawls and blankets. So, I start to go through my list of people and decide what I will make for them. After I decide the larger projects I pick a few smaller projects to give me some variety.

This summer I have made a goal to learn deeper in my craft. I have only made blankets/afghans for years. I am 33 its time to learn how to crochet booties, lil outfits for babies, and what I am working on now is a granny square. I know how terrible. But I am self taught and its been real hard. But I love it. I am a military wife and women are having babies all the time so I love to give out afghans. Which I make mine different. I make them a lot bigger so the baby can grow up with it. So this is my goal this summer, to learn more so I can make more things.. Thank you

Though I am more inspired during the colder months because the mention of knitting and/or crocheting conjures up thoughts of warmth, I do enjoy making “lighter” items like crocheted necklaces, fun flowered headbands, faux sandals, frilly doilies and whatever else pops into my head. Last night I decided to make a purse out of my scraps of cotton yarn and it is turning out very “summery”. Now if I could just decide on handles . . .

When I am ready to launch my website this summer, I will sell them for 3.00 and donate .50 to a new charity every month.

It’s a great thing to do while watching TV. I even have a little table set up with big balls of scraps tied together underneath and I just make them till I am ready for bed!

Socks and bags. The bags are every sort from yarn bra to purses to shopping bags. Small, portable and cool knitting.

Most of my knittting is done for charity and I do the same things in summer that do the rest of the year. I do use more cotton yarns though since I try to send out the results every 3 momnths or so.

It varies-this year baby hats and booties. Have three friends becoming first time grammas soon!
Then have to start an afghan for a wedding gift in September.

I knit everything in the summer – it’s my best knitting time because I have more knitting time (less carpool time). I love to knit shawls and lace in the summer.

Gosh, that’s hard. I tend to make all my birthday gifts during the summer. This year’s theme is: hats, so I’m making hats all summer. Last summer it was mittens. But in general, socks are my VERY favorite thing to make!

Doilies are my main thing during the summer. It’s humid as all get-out from Easter to Halloween and my hands sweat so much that yarn just sticks to my fingers. Bedspread cotton becomes my best friend when it’s hot!

I just finished two baby knitted ponchos, infant hats, baby girl’s headband, and baby washcloths for two baby showers at work. Made a basket full of knitted potholders, hot pads, and dish cloths with a heart theme for a Chinese Auction for an Avon breast cancer walk team, and now am working on a bridal shower basket with kitchen items listed above and mug rugs. So it depends what is going on with what I am making, but I like small projects in the summer.

I like to knit socks, I just change the pattern on the top of the sock to make them more fun, that way I learn a new pattern each time & try something harder each time.

When the weather is hot, I try to make small items that crochet up quickly.
Such as the small little caps for the NICU, Christmas ornaments, crochet edging on baby blankets, small baby afghans, scrubbies, and crochet snowflakes. Also crochet edging on cotton wash cloths. These go to the women’s shelter.
None of these take too much time from start to finish. And WOW ! when you see a dozen scrubbies, baby caps,or a stack of wash cloths it makes you feel as if you have really done a lot of work !

Just finished a knitted shawl made from Bernat Satin yarn, for my mother’s 90th birthday. She always gets chilly in restaurants when the a/c is running. She will be very surprised and will love it and it is washer and dryer safe.

I’m planning to continue making three baby blankets each month for charity, and now my daughter has asked me to make her up a batch of pillowcases with edging, so she can use a fresh case every night. And I have started making a skirt for her, my first adult clothing article. Very exciting summer, indeed!
