I’ve been working on the Ringtoss Afghan that is featured on the front cover of Crochet World Magazine for August 2012. I will level with you, I’m not usually one to be enticed by the front cover of a magazine in order to purchase it just for one or two patterns. I think it’s because so many great sites like AllFreeCrochet and AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns exist for me to pick out something that is free to follow.
Having said that, some patterns are definitely worth the purchase and for me this is one of them. I bought this one due to the 3D look of the pattern. I recently ran a review of this Ringtoss Afghan pattern on YouTube.
I don’t have any association to Crochet World or to the designer, Barbara Worn-Wurtz, who created this pattern. However, I recently heard from Barbara thanking me for the appreciation of loving her design.
This pattern isn’t a pattern that you will get done within a week… I think it would take you about 3 weeks to complete if you have the time. The wonderful thing about this afghan is that the reverse side (which you can’t see in the magazine) is really nice as well.
For me, this is one of the best paid-for designs for 2012. This pattern has excited me greatly and I am about 75% done with it. I am posting a work in progress (WIP) update on The Crochet Crowd Facebook to show people my challenges and how fast this really takes.
If you see this magazine at the store or online, take a close look at this pattern and see if it is something that interests you.
See you next Wednesday.
What books or magazines have you bought based on a cover pattern?

I have a copy of the mag…with the Rings Afghan too…awesome…I buy knitting, crochetting, embroidery, cross stitch, and quilting magazines….Since my parents and grandmothers are gone I’ve been using magazines to learn from….lets me continue with what my mom and my grandmothers taught me…and with no other teachers per say the mags help a lot…This year I’ve learnt how to knit socks….and a lot about the dresden quilt block…thanks to the mags and great sites like yours…..
I love the look of this afghan, it is so different than most others featured on the met. Having said that, I live in UK and so can not get hold of the magazine, Do you tjink that there is a chance that allfreecrochet could make it available as a free pattern.
I Love reading this blog, keep up the good work please x
I have the 2012 magazine with the Ringtoss afghan. I started to make 3 at the same time, one each fir my two daughters and one for my daughter-in-law. However I got caught up in making baby blankets and Christening gowns. Now here it is eight years later and I need to finish these. I have all the squares and triangles done along with 60 “circles” to the point of starting the actual ring. I am totally lost on how to do this. Any help, preferably a video, would be of great assistance. I live in Michigan across from Windsor, Canada. I’d come to you not I think you are somewhere in Far East Canada. Also because of the pandemic the borders are closed.
