Let’s Go! Slouchy Knit Hat Pattern from Red Heart

September 8, 2015 by Stitch&Unwind

It’s the time of the year for football and nippy weather – so this knit hat pattern from Red Heart Yarns is the perfect project to cast on now.  Knit up in the round in a fun seed stitch motif, the self-striping yarn makes this pattern easier than ever to make the ultimate hat to wear to the stadium to cheer on your team.  Keep your ears warm while you cheer for your favorite team.  And because this yarn is made in popular team color combinations, you can knit a hat perfect for a Green Bay Packers outing or a Chicago Bears tailgating party.

Of course, this is a super versatile pattern that you can make it with any color you choose.  Whether you want a hat knit up with team color stripes or even just a solid color, this is a great knitting pattern for beginners who are ready to learn how to knit in the round.  The pom pom is completely optional, but is a fun addition, for sure!

FINISHING
Pompom (optional)
Using a pompom maker or proceeding as follows, make a pompom and attach to top of hat.
Cut a 10” (25.5 cm) length of yarn and set aside. Wrap yarn around three center fingers. The more wraps, the fuller the pompom. Carefully remove wraps from fingers. With the 10” (25.5 cm) length, tie center of wraps together tightly. Fluff and trim pompom, but do not trim ends of 10” (25.5 cm) tying yarn. Use ends of tying yarn to attach pompom to top of hat.
Weave in ends.
