{Link Love} Stashbusters: No-Knit DIY Yarn Projects

April 2, 2015 by AllFreeKnitting 3 Comments

There comes a day in every yarn hoarders life where we just have to admit that we’ve run out of room to store the yarn.  When that day comes, we need to have a game plan.  A way to help us dig out of the hole and use up some of that precious yarn.  Of course, we could knit baby booties and cast on fabulous knit blanket patterns, but why not use some of the yarn to beautify your home in unexpected ways.

Using yarn around the home to decorate and create useful items is a great way to commence stashbusting!  To help us all out, I’ve gathered some of the best tutorials from around the blogosphere that are full of great ideas that could easily be adapted to any yarn you have around.

Since I love collecting different colors yarn and always have a stash I ended up with 4 large totes of yarn when I moved that could not go along so I took them to a close nursing home and oh were there sparkling eyes.

I would like to make some of those scarves that are done with yarns and water-soluble stabilizer all stitched together. Never have gotten the stabilizer (no $).
I use yarn for tying up plants in the garden (sometimes) because the yarn is softer and doesn’t cut the plant stems and it lets them sway with the breeze just a bit, making them stronger and healthier.
And how I use up yarn without knitting is to crochet. Or macrame. Or maybe weave.
The way I have used yarn most, recently (other than knitting), has been mending socks. It makes a soft patch that looks pretty nice in case people see my socks. If I were to choose coordinating colors, it would look better. Mostly I use whatever small leftover ball of yarn I can find.
Do you need other non-knit yarn use ideas? I’m sure I could think of bunches if I put my mind to it.
