When Life Gives You Lemons… #stitchawaystress

April 28, 2015 by Stitch&Unwind 4 Comments

I’ve recently talked about the health benefits of knitting and crochet and how knitting and crocheting can help alleviate (or at the very least reduce) many of the symptoms of a stressful life. Studies have shown that the repetitive motion and concentration required to knit and crochet will help calm you down, lowering your stress hormone levels – thus you are able to #stitchawaystress.

Today I thought I’d share with you another great way to #stitchawaystress with the help of the Craft Yarn Council and our friend Twinkie Chan.  CYC and Twinkie teamed up to create an easy to crochet lemon stress ball pattern.  Knitters, don’t fret, there is a free knitting pattern for a lemon stress ball for you, too.  Be sure to follow the Craft Yarn Council via Instagram and Facebook; you’ll find plenty of fun and unique ways to use knitting and crocheting to unwind, reduce stress in your life and boost your mood.

Free Stress Relief Crochet Pattern:

Lemon7-hand-square (1)If you are feeling any stress right now, the Crochet Lemon Stress Ball is just what you need. Not only will you instantly feel more relaxed as you work up this free crochet pattern, but afterward, you can continue to squeeze away stress once you’ve completed the pattern.  You need little more than some bright yellow yarn, a scrap a green and a firm stuffing, and in no time at all your stress will be a thing of the past as you have taken the time to #stitchawaystress.

Free Stress Relief Knitting Pattern:

KnitLemonHand3-squareThis Knit Lemon Stress Ball is the perfect small project to release a little stress with.  Not only will the monotony of the simple knitting pattern lull you and calm your overactive stress receptors, but when you’re done, you’ll have the perfect little stress ball to pick up to squeeze away what is ailing you.  Taking the time to #stitchawaystress is good for your well being, so relax and enjoy the process.

“You are using up an awful lot of brain capacity to perform a coordinated series of movements,” Betsan Corkhill of StitchLinks says. “The more capacity you take up by being involved in a complex task, the less capacity you have for bad thoughts.”

Together with the CYC, Twinkie has filmed a video for everyone showing the crochet lemon stress ball from start to finish.  As you will see, it really is easy and won’t stress you out.

I have a grand daughter who has learned how to crochet. I would love to find patterns, easy ones, that she could make for herself. She’s eleven years old and there isn’t anything around here for her age, only babies or adults. It’s good to encourage kids to crochet, and the best way is for them to make something they can wear! Help!

I really learned a great deal with your tutorial on the lemon esp. How to work in the round and I have the same idea about sewing in my gaps. It looks better. Stress is gone!!☺
