There’s an open lot on the road I take to work that is planted with sunflowers every spring. It’s an amazing sight to see and it’s all I can do to not pull off to the side of the road and frolic in the field. Of course, I’d probably look like a crazy person. But I think it’d be worth it.
I remember hearing this quote about sunflowers from Helen Keller when I was younger:
“Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow. It’s what sunflowers do.”
Isn’t that the truth? I marvel at her ability to make me see something so clearly when she herself could not see. I imagine her touching the warm petals of this magnificent flower and realizing that the sunflowers must turn to face the sun during the day. Truly incredible.
To capture this sunny flower to remind you to keep your chin up and appreciate the beauty in life, I’ve collected our free sunflower crochet patterns. Fill your home with these giant flowers and you’ll keep your face to the sunshine all year long.
