I almost always buy the cheapest on sale yarn (tends to be Red Heart), because it allows me to experiment without worrying to much about messing up the yarn. I know worsted weight has its limits, but considering I’m still learning and on a budget, I feel better about buying it.

I usually stick to acrylics and superwash wools so that the people I knit things for won’t wind up accidentally felting their gifts into Christmas ornaments! I like almost any yarn that isn’t Red Heart Super Saver, which feels very harsh, even when soaked in a bowl of fabric softener for three days, and isn’t suitable for making chemo caps for children, my current project. But I really like it when I can afford to get Cascade 220 — it feel nice, and it comes in so many colors!

I haven’t worked with many different types of yarn but I think my new favorite is Red Hearts Super Soft yarn. I just bought some to make some goodies for my cousin’s baby and I don’t know why I waited so long to use it!

I really have no favorite yarns (although a soft merino wool is on my list). It depends on the project I have in mind. The correct yarn makes all the difference in the outcome!

I have been working with a lot of different yarns over the years. Just recently I have been able to play with some Alpaca yarn. But I still think my favorite I have ever worked with was a wool satin mix that was found in the bottom of a box that was packed up in the 70’s. It worked amazingly, was shiny, and wonderfully soft.

I don’t know which I prefer because I have only used one type thus far, just plain old acrylic. I love the feel of other yarns though, wool, silk, etc.
