March 24, 2012 by AllFreeKnitting 2 Comments

You can create your own collection of yarn in every shade of the rainbow with this unique kettle dyeing technique from Rebecca Roush. This technique uses food coloring and a dyebath to create a tie-dyed or mottled look to the color of your yarn. This video teaches you the ultimate in DIY knitting and crochet. Watch the video below for the full tutorial on How to Kettle Dye Yarn from AllFreeKnitting.com.

Have you ever dyed your own yarn? What other techniques do you use?

I’ve never tried dyeing my own yarn, and this looks like a great way to get a really interesting look. If you try this, be sure to post photos of the result on our Facebook page!

I have never tried to do this yet, but I surely want to. I have a friend that dyes her own yarns…such pretty color combinations too.
