Wardrobe Essentials: Summer Patterns to Knit and Wear

May 3, 2014 by AllFreeKnitting 2 Comments

Wardrobe-Essentials400 Knitting in the summer can be a bit of a quandary.  Typically, we think of the hottest days of the summer, forgetting the lukewarm weeks leading up to the real scorchers.  I personally tend to forget how cold it can get indoors, especially in office buildings, where one often overzealous individual controls the thermostat.

Knitting in the summer can be just as useful and relaxing as it is in the winter.  Knowing exactly what type of projects will best serve you in the summer moths is the real trick.  No one wants to wear a thick winter sweater in the middle of July, which is why these lighter patterns will be a real hit with knitters.  You can’t go wrong if you build your summer wardrobe around one of these fashionable knitting patterns.

10 Summer Patterns to Knit and Wear

Angelica Vest – A simple lace pattern that makes an excellent layering piece.

Morning Glory Shawl – Knit this up and keep it at the office to stave off the cold air conditioning.

Peaches ‘n Cream Lacy Shawlette – Cool nights won’t be a problem with this chic little shawl.

One Ball Mary Jane Slippers – These light slippers are a great project for folks who prefer to wear some sort of slipper around the house.

Angel Shawl – This lace shawl will be the envy of everyone.  It’s perfect for an elegant night out or a professional setting.

Summer Sunburst Cardigan – Don’t let an unexpected rain catch you out in the cold.  This cardigan will keep you warm without overpowering you.

Summer Socks – Designed with a low cuff, these hand knit socks will be a delight for your feet.

Garter Lace Cardigan – A light, lacy top, this pattern is absolutely adorable.  The lace pattern knits up relatively fast, making this a great choice for impatient knitters.

Seamless Spring Sweater – This Joe-basic seamless sweater is a standard pullover.  It’s a great garment to have on hand for unexpected rainy days.

Pretty Lace Pullover – Talk about gorgeous; this sweater will be a hit with everyone you know!

Hi! My favorite daytime outfit is both very simple and home sewn. It is a loose fitting gauze weight cotton fabric dress. Underneath it is a lighter weight cotton ‘slip.’ The cotton is breathable, and if needed, I can always add a small lacy shawl over my shoulders. I have always hated to wear shoes, sandals, or those flip-flop type things in summer. I instead wear mainly older knitted socks or a pair of dressy knit cotton slippers, with a sole added. This is my typical home or outdoor event attire. At work I must wear business attire; most often a three piece suit. Blouse and skirt is a no no. Dresses are frowned upon, but many of the lesser titled women don’t have a rigid dress code. Thank goodness the air conditioning at work tends to run much cooler than one would set at home. At the end of this past winter I began searching for t-shirt style top knit patterns, which recommend bamboo or cotton light weight yarn. Many of the patterns are blah boring, so they give me a chance to add some personized detailed repeats. I enjoy the creativity and inspiration in making my own designs.
