Warmth Without Weight: 6 Knit Cardigans Perfect for Spring

April 3, 2014 by AllFreeKnitting 13 Comments

Warmth-Without-WeightBI tend to get a little over-excited in the spring.  After seeing the sunshine, green grass, and budding flowers outside my window, I usually run out the door without a jacket, thinking I’ll be just fine.  In my excitement over the changing weather, I always forget that anything under 65*F is actually still a bit on the chilly side.  As a knitter, I’ve found resourceful ways to cope with my careless ways.  Even if I’m tempted to run outdoors without a jacket, I can usually remember to grab a knitted cardigan, especially if it’s one that I want to show off.

This collection of free knit sweater patterns is just for people who are ready to shed their winter layers and get something fresh on their needles.  If you’re like me and tend to forget a warm layer, these patterns will give you a big incentive to remember to grab your sweater.  These lightweight sweaters will keep you nice and warm in the office or outdoors, without weighing you down.  Now that winter is over for the year, we can put away our thick knitted sweaters and scarves.  Pulling out a light yarn and casting on a lacy sweater for the spring and summer seasons can be an invigorating activity for any knitter.

Juliet’s Little Shrug – For those who like a little ruffle in their wardrobe, this cute shrug will be an excellent addition.

Seaside Cardigan – This cardigan is perfect for layering.  This lacy sweater has a naturally elegant look that will draw plenty of compliments.

Bright and Breezy Kimono – Add a pop of color to your outfit with this delightful pattern.  You can wear this versatile sweater almost anywhere.

Diamonds on the Cuff – Perfect for days with a chill in the air, this cardigan has a lace cuff on the three quarters length sleeve that will make you look fantastic.

Garter Lace Cardigan – You’ll feel at home wherever you go in this cute cardigan.  Throw it over a contrasting color blouse for a modern look.

Armande Cardigan – With a vintage-inspired look, this cardigan will keep you nice and warm.  Knit this pattern up in a bright color to create a chic, flattering sweater.

What is your favorite spring outfit?

I live in shorts and a t-shirt in the summer. I’m always outdoors working in my garden. I love the shawl on the cover of the book. Gorgeous.

Going to start on the Seaside Cardigan. It looks light enough to just keep the chill off at times. I’m doing it in Caron’s Simply Soft in country blue.

My favorite spring outfit is a pair of khakis, a short-sleeved shell or t-shirt and a light sweater.

Bright and Breezy Kimono, it’s my next project. Favorite spring attire is light weight pants and light sweater. I have several combos in pastels and brighter colors.
