When the weather outside is frightful, who says you can’t make knits that are absolutely delightful? If you haven’t already, it’s time to put away the lightweight yarns and exchange them for the chunkier ones. Winter knits don’t have to be unsightly just because they’re bulkier. I guarantee you can still make all of the fashionable knit infinity scarves you want. Now, they’ll just be warmer and better able to withstand the harsh winds that winter is sure to bring.
Though autumn is by far my favorite season, the beauty of winter isn’t lost on me. The landscape makes yet another change as the snow covers the trees and the streets to create a beautiful winter wonderland scene you can’t help but love. As lovely as the outside now looks, however, it’s always a good idea to bundle up. This is the time where knit hat patterns and knit mittens and scarves rank supreme. After all, when the winter season runs long, you’re going to want a variety of heavier accessories to keep yourself warm.
I know what you’re thinking. You’ve barely gotten to enjoy your autumn, and we’re already talking about winter?! There’s no need to worry. This is merely a preview of what’s to come. It’s always best to look ahead. After all, you don’t want to wait until the last minute to knit all of your winter accessories. Get a head start today. Don’t be caught in the cold (literally) without some bulky winter knits sure to keep you warm and toasty when the temperature reaches its lowest.

The coziness of it! Sitting in my warm, cozy house, knitting, while the snow falls & blustery winds blow outside 🙂
Drinking hot chocolate!
Not sweating all the time, so being able to wear sweaters and all the other knitwear I make!
Knitting by the fire and listening to Lake Superior roar.
Cuddling up with an afghan and watching the snow blow around…on the other side of the window.
Getting back to knitting afghans without constant sweating and drinking hot tea while knitting!
Hearty stews, warm blankets and scarves, walking through a winter wonderland, preparations for the festive holiday season…so much to look forward to!
Knitting heavy blankets to stay warm
The way the snow makes everything look pretty.
I don’t know how to knit, my mom use to know a little bit like casting on, but we’re crocheters. However, I look forward to seeing the snow fall, oh that’s so pretty. I also look forward to sitting in my sewing room planning out a quilt, sewing it up and then quilting it or crocheting a scarf, or an afghan while drinking hot chocolate, yum!
making a special blanket or sweater for a family member or a knit or crocheted toy animal for my grandchildren.
A lap full of knitting to keep me cozy . . . . . . sweaters, afghans, looooong scarves. All good! And , though they don’t keep my lap warm, hats, hats, hats, hats. The more the merrier!
Working on a warm sweater for my grandson
When I’m not outside enjoying the snow, I love to sit and knit while watching the snow fall!
crocheting! crocheting! crocheting!
Snuggles on the couch, under a blanket, with my kids or my husband, watching a movie. Hot soups and crock pot dinners. And being snowed in. And now since I’ve learned how to knit, cold winter days/night I’ll be knitting up my first blanket!
During the winter I most look forward to summer and warm days, but since it’s winter I can bundle up with hot chocolate, TV and knitting warm winter projects. Winter is the perfect time of year to knit when you are snowed in.
I always hated being outside in the winter…didn’t like the snow and cold, but las fall an adorable little Shih Tzu, Nikon, came into our lives. He adores the snow, plays like a toddler and has to be reminded to come in. While I’m in the yard playing with him, I’m beginning to appreciate the wonders of winter again, the sparkling of Sun on the snow, hearing the birds, loving the warmth of the scarf I made that’s covering my face and realizing I better learn to knit him some sweaters…his get so wet each time from the snow, he needs a new one each time he goes out. Because of my new love….I now love winter
sitting inside in the warmth, knitting and/or baking or making soup and bread.
Giving handmade gifts at Christmas and making things for other people to give.
