I’m High on Yarn Fumes

May 9, 2012 by Michael Sellick

Have you ever seen this video? Sh*t Knitters Say.
I have to say, for 2012, this is my most favorite video so far.

“Yarn diet, I’m on it!” Haha, as if. I am collecting yarn at a pace where my house may explode. Thank gawd I have a great partner that allows me to collect yarn. My favorite part of this video is at the 1:37 minute mark. After watching it, I have screamed out in a store a couple times that I am high on yarn fumes. You only live once and the people around the yarn aisles can totally relate.

Yarn CollectionI think over the last 4 years of teaching crochet and knitting online, I have turned into a yarn hoarder. However, over time I have become more selective on the yarn I want. I see my yarn as a collection rather than a stash. This collection of mine is separated by manufacturer instead of color. I try to use the same yarn from a manufacturer throughout a project to make it easier for my viewers to follow along. I have more yarn but it’s in totes and is completely different than what you see in the pictures. (Believe it or not, I have more, but it’s in totes and is completely different that what you see in the pictures.)

Yarn WallLike many of my viewers, I collect the yarn for those “what if” moments. We all know you can’t make anything with one ball of yarn really. You need a least two or maybe a few more… wink wink.

So be proud of your yarn stash and start referring to it as your yarn collection instead. It helps justify your stash a bit more than sounding like a heap of unused trashy yarn balls. See what others think about this choice of description and get back to me by writing a comment to this blog.

For knitting inspiration, you can always use AllFreeKnitting.com as an excellent free pattern resource and video tutorial site.

If you have any questions, leave them here in the blog comments for me to find. Enjoy your week and see you next Wednesday.
